DB killer or baffle?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have a race can and want to quieten it down slightly - I've searched the internet and found two possible options up to now, a baffle and a db killer.

My question is, what is the difference between the two? Which is the most efficient at reducing noise / easiest to fit etc.?

I thought they were the same thing, but the baffle comes with the exhaust, and a db killer is a generic baffle that fits lots of different exhausts, that is bought separately.

No idea if the above is true or not, like :???:

In answer to your question: DizzyBlonde is both a killer (of bambis :mrgreen:) and she's a most baffling character also ;-)

Ahem, anyone know where my coat is? (you did ask for that one though :-P)

My dad made a baffle for his old GSXR600; it quietened it down to be comfy, was still fruity though. Was a simple design, much like the baffles you get with exhausts anyway

I'm not sure there's actually a definition, but if there is, I think the above is it.

This is what I thought originally, but since have found that they look totally different;

Im gunna say theyre the same thing, from the teo piccies it looks like they do exactly the same thing just in slightly different ways (different design).

Baffle = reduce roise
Kill the decibels = reduce roise

Re: DB killer or baffle?

Just because they're not identical it doesn't mean they're not the same sort of thing.

To clarify: Ordinarily a baffle is supplied as a removeable piece of an exhaust supplied as legal, removing the baffle will make it louder and illegal. A DB killer isn't supplied as part of an exhaust and is intended to quieten a non legal exhaust, they are less well fitting as they are intended to be a sort of universal fit, this will not make an illegal exhaust legal.

You have stated that you have exhaust you wish to quieten, from this can I estimate that it's a illegal and does not have a baffle? If so then a DB killer is your best option. However if it is an 'E' marked exhaust it my be possible to obtain a baffle if you know the maker.

Re: DB killer or baffle?

I have an ART race can on my bike that soes not have a baffle in it. To pass the MOT I bought a DB Killer which is the metal part in the Baffle pic and it just quietens down the noise. The DB should be screwed into the exhaust but mine just jams in and i use a camping tent peg remover to take it out. Works well enough to pass MOT.
