Rearset recommendations?

Following on from the other rearset thread, I had a search and could find much about them. also google didnt help too much as I dont know any actual makes

what are good budget and medium price rearsets?

I remember Stu talking about some that got rid of him hitting false neutrals.

I would be after a set for more adjustment of the gear changer lever. The setting I have it on at the moment, is too high, if I knock it down one notch it is too low.

Im not sure on the clearnace issues people have been talking about, Ive only ever grounded the pegs once on a cambered corner. So clearnace isnt an issue, and thats not because Im not trying, I dont have any chicken strips!

thanks

Yep, I race with them. Very nice rearsets but they are expensive and do not survive crashes at all well. You can buy spares or even one replacement side.

GBMoto are cheaper, more robust, look just as good but are slightly heavier.

Re: Rearsets

Right, I'm going to ask a really stupid question here...

What's the deal with rearsets compared to the standard setup? What's the difference?

Re: Rearsets

WAY better levers, they got roller bearings in. And solid pegs so you can feel what the bike is doing better.

Also more ground clearance, I find them comfier.

flymo 18-03-10 10:24 PM

Re: Rearsets

another less raised point is that the pegs are usually rigid, that is they dont fold like normal OEM pegs. This is partly to protect the bike if it slides on its side, a bit like a crash bung, but also it can prevent your leg being trapped under the bike if you are unlucky to still be on it (or next to it :-) ) at this point.

I'm very happy with my GB Moto's. There might be better, but I don't think there is better value for money. I haven't crashed with them so can't say how well they hold up for sure, but they seem very sturdy.

I'm happy with my Valtermoto rearsets....then again...they're still in a box waiting to go on :(

lawson17 19-03-10 11:37 AM

Re: Rearsets

I have Valter Moto fitted too, their type 1's. They aren't adjustable, and don't like crashing very much either, but they are pretty good for £170.

I bought some other rearsets on ebay before the season started, but they don't fit with the K3 rear subframe. (See 'For Sale' Section if interested.) :D

There must be more lean available in that bike then :-), I've grounded out a set of race rear sets on a few occasions and they are much higher than stock pegs. In fact last time I did it I ended up on my ar$e at 80mph :-)....actually, that pic in my avatar was one or two laps before it happened on teh very same corner.

Re: Rearsets

Two questions:
1. Can the pegs be positioned lower than the stock ones?
2. Will the brake lights still work or are these rearsets mainly for use on track?

CheGuevara 19-03-10 11:54 PM

Re: Rearsets

With the GB Motos the low setting is still notably higher than stock on the S (which I think would be relatively higher still on the N). I'm 6'4" though and still don't find it an issue for rides of a few hours.

You will need a brake pressure sensor banjo to activate the brake light. It's very easy to install, just cutting the wires to the original and splicing in the new one in place. I got one direct from GB Moto for (I think) and extra £10 maybe.

Re: Rearsets

Hel do the same switch for a few quid IIRC

barwel1992 20-03-10 01:43 AM

Re: Rearsets

i got a goodridge brake switch

and my GB moto rear set adjuster plates have been swaped over and fliped over so they are even lower than the low setting because i have fat legs and found them wayyy to high on the low setting with the plates the original way round

you will need a custom length rear brake line (for the k3 any way)

The connecting bar lets you have infinite adjustment of the height of the gear lever. Doesn't the standard have a connecting bar that works the same way?

I thought thier was issues with standard subframe & gb moto rearsets on the pointy??

Re: Rearsets

Just cable tie the stock switch to the side of the master cylinder, works fine then but doesn't look quite as neat as pressure switch!

I use Diamond race rearsets on a K3 without any problem. The K3 rear subframe is higher than later pointys so if you were going to experience a problem I would have thought the K3 to be the least likely.

Re: Rearset recommendations?

I got Harris rearsets off someone on here yonks ago (Stramasher maybe?), they are sturdy, quality items but pricey. They have the brake switch bracket.

I dropped it while at GM1 but they didn't suffer at all and held the bike off the ground so only other damage was broken bar-end mirror.
