Is this a standard colour ?

1 Attachment(s)
Two newbie questions - sorry O:)

Is this a standard colour scheme, I've not seen it before, I would think it's a special ?

I take it that it would be fairly easy to buy the lower fairing (and have them painted) just bolt on ?

Many thanks

Gerry

Nope thats definately not standard.

However the silver might be a standard SV colour with the green paintover the top.

+1 is probably standard sv silver. Problem you will have is getting an accurate colour match for the green as there wont be a colour code on the bike anywhere and I presume theres nothing with the history. Colour matching by eye is notoriously difficult (my dad has done bodyshop all his life) you will get close but not exact, but depends how picky you are about your bikes appearance. At the end of the day you could probably fit plain silver lower fairings and it would look o.k - or better still if you dont mind going to the trouble of bodyshop get the whole lot done in a colour of your own taste/style.:)

Thanx for that...

I've been looking at SV's for a couple of weeks now and I'd love a red / yellow one - it didn't occur to me that I could have a complete re-spray (coming from cars where that's very expensive).

Has anybody any idea how much a complete respray would cost ?

It may be easier to buy a nice bike at a sensible price and have it sprayed ?
Suspect that it's something that sounds easy but would end up being costly and time consuming :-(

You can buy many reasonably priced bikes that have lovely paintwork that don't need respraying.

Unless of course, you wanted to have some sort of custom thing done.

Not sure how much of the top of my head? Ill probably be speaking to my dad over next day or so, ill find out how much he'd charge - he's nowhere near you but will give you an idea of cost.

No don't want anything fancy, SV650S full fairing, red or yellow & under £2K (quite a bit under if poss) looking at all the usual places at the mo, Pistonheads, Bike Trader MCN etc, not a lot about.

Just out of interest, I was talking to a (sensible) dealer on Friday who was just putting all his prices up !
He said he just couldn't get good used stock in as dealers were coming over from the continent buying loads as the pound was so weak against the euro :(

Keep looking you will find something, personally I woudlnt buy that bike with the silver and green paint job, it'll a night mare trying to match the green and IMHO it looks rubbish.

Keep looking and find yourself a standard bike. They are out there and your budget seems reasonable for what you're after.

Re: Is this a standard colour ?

If you want a standard sv colour then probably best to get a new bike, you should have no problems getting a curvy for under 2k if not 1500,if you buy private.
You are right what you say though was reading an article in MCN today about the sharp increase in new bike prices and european traders coming over to snatch up used stock - mainly due to the exchange rate. On the flip side if you look to chop yours in, that should be better too.

Thank you all... the low price (about a grand for a year 2000) was blinding me to the colour.

I suppose no matter how cheap, every time I saw a red or yellow one I'd regret buying it.

The search continues...

:)

Re: Is this a standard colour ?

Yeh can see how you would be tempted for 1000, a respray prob wouldnt cost you anymore than 700, but if you are looking for a standard colour then you are better off with a standard bike.

Best of look with your search.

p.s That bike really does look nasty :-s :-D

Re: Is this a standard colour ?

I'm getting all my pointy's bodywork repaired and resprayed by a place in Marple (near Stockport) for £350. Candy colours were about £100 more on top.

That price included:
Top fairing
Lowers L&R
Rear tail, L&R
Tank
Front fender
Hugger

Re: Is this a standard colour ?

To put in perspective I bought my 2000 curvy 3 years ago. At that time its was in mint condition, 27k for £1800. Its in similar condition now, is well maintainedwith 33000, but unfortunately I have been lazy finding a replacement for the cracked panel(or indeed getting it repaired). On what I've seen recently in the for sale section i reckon I could squeeze £1500 if I replaced the panel.
I'm not selling it BTW, I just like to keep an open eye for just in case.

My other SV is irreplaceable in much better state after a rebuild, with less miles, looks much better, loads of bling. Probably be worth more as scrap ;-)...oh and yellow too.

+1, too much metal flake in the silver I reckon for it to be oem. Not a nice colour scheme at any rate.

@lazymanc, that seems like a reasonable price, and I guess the question is: How much damage needs to be repaired?

Mainly the lowers that are scratched and dented, but not cracked fortunately. Tank was a bit of a mess also.
