Bus Lane TFL Survey, Apathy from Bikers

Quote:

Transport for London report little feedback (i.e. apathy) from motorcyclists in respect of the trial of motorbikes sharing bus lanes in London. In contrast, cyclists continue to lobby to have bikers banned again, despite little or no evidence of biker + cycle accidents since the trial began.

If we value the right to use bus lanes, and reduce our filtering risk, then participating in the survey may be to our advantage, especially as the London outcome is likely to guide what other UK cities do. This is the link to the very short TFL poll / survey:https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers...s/default.aspx
I know this has been posted before but I can't find the thread. Perhaps this one could be stickied?
Please complete the survey in a positive light for bikers to continue to use them, otherwise we could just lose out to whoever shouts loudest rather than a decision being made on actual results.

I think they're always going to have more right to use them than us, so I can't see that being a winner :(

Survey done and thread stickied.

Well done for bringing this up again Stu, i dont think i'd seen it before now.

I think everyone who rides in London should make sure they fill in that survey.

just as a point of interest Colchester was one of the pilot towns for bikes, taxis and bicycles in bus lanes. We've had it for years now and it works very well. Lots of people sent lots of feedback to the borough council about how it seemed to work very well for everyone.
I know we're only a smallish town and certainly don't have the bus and taxi traffic to be found in that there London but we showed it can work. Buses, it seems to me have learnt to be observant. that's not guesswork - one runs right outside my house!
Good luck

Well make sure that once you fill in the survey you also add these comments in the box at the end :)

done despite only riding into town once every 2-3 weeks but enjoyed my last trip to Essential Rubber riding in the bus lanes!

Done, gotta make sure we fill this lot in if we're going to stop people being able to pull out a survey saying "87% were neutral or disagreed with motorbikes being in bus lanes"

Skillfully done in the nick of time so that you can click on the "25 - 34" age bracket.

Just done. I've started riding to London for band practice and the odd gig (if you see some daft fule on a yellow curvy with a bass guitar strapped to his back, it's likely to be me- got some funny looks already!).

The bus lanes on Marylebone Rd/Euston Road were a blessing on Sunday.

I also put a plug in for bikes using cycle boxes at junctions- for safety reasons of course!

You may be interested to know that TfL did a proper survey about this (aha you see you can't fool us with your survey-fiddling antics, we is clever you see).

Anyhoos the good news is that it was all very positive and even the cyclists don't mind us being there too much. It's not the only factor in the decision but it def helps :D So you can all keep up the good work not crashing and being nice to the lovely cyclists! :smt052

PS. you didn't hear it from me! :-$

Drats! Our fiendish plans have been foiled lads & ladies. On to plan B! ;) :D

What was plan B again? Was it the one where we set fire to TFL towers?

We gotta remember to let our friendly fishy know in advance tho. Otherwise its BBQ fish

Done, I received a fine once before all this happened so they best not take the trail away!

They have spend too much money on all the new signs to swap them all back again.

i cant see why theyd want too undo it if the trial has worked it's not logical.

technically this is still on trial till Feb (i think) of 2010 and could be revoked.

Re: Bus Lane TFL Survey, Apathy from Bikers

It can depend on how much sense is present on the body deciding it - up here, the initial (3yr) trial in Sheffield was made permanent with no fanfare, because it was an accident reduction measure and the numbers spoke for themselves.

I'm not sure if the London one is the same sort of affair, or whether they've got something less solid as a baseline. I'd say that if it were congestion or emissions based then to get on and sign all the petitions to keep it, as the numbers probably won't show much difference before and after.
