Replacing the Daytona.
I have much time to contemplate these days, life, poetry, the like
My thoughts turned to riding, and questioning the use of the Daytona on the road, it's sublime - the engine is perfect, the chassis is light, flickable if a little heavily sprung, the riding position is fine for me, but something bothers me, mostly that if you hit the redline in 2nd you're doing 100mph. I can't help but think it's pretty OTT, and would feel so much better utilised on a track Absently mindedly browsing biketrader, with nothing other than a 100 mile travel limit and prices between 4-6 grand the only thing that stuck out was a smattering of RSV-Rs, but a quick trip to confused.com to get no quotes the right side of £1000 put an end to that idea For some reason the big twins keep cropping up, and the Superduke came to mind, insurance quotes are good, £300 good, cheaper than the 675, I've always had a strange fascination with the "so ugly it's beautiful" looks, but don't know how well a naked bike would work out when touring, which is what i'd like to do So, oh mighty org, what haven't I considered, do I buy a superduke and enjoy a naked life? Do i buy a VFR and cross europe, what about a KTM Adventure and do a "long way round the island" - or use the funds to track the 675, buy a van and a bunch of trackdays and give up riding on the road??? |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
Superduke. Naked is fine long distance, you don't need a load of tupperware to cower behind away from a little breeze. Proper handlebars make chucking it about through corners a right laugh.
(Never ridden a superduke, but have ridden quite a few 'fighters and they're all far more fun than the sportsbikes they based on) |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
Buy a VFR400 or another 400 that still can give you fun and possibly give you more chance of keeping your licence :)
Then use the change to sort you out for Trackdays :) EDIT: But yeah the Superdukes, they are fit. |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
Get a Superduke, then tell me how ace it is 'cos I really fancy one to be honest. I agree with the "so ugly" idea, just like English Bull Terriers, I think they are cool dogs.

Yea, sounds very very good does the little VFR400, only really heard one in person though :( So they are pretty rare it seems which is a good thing in some sense, youll get some attention because of it. Why dont Honda make a V4 600? Man that would be sex on a stick. Even id be tempted :p |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
Bloke (maybe) selling a SDR on ktmforum.

just that for all the choice there's not much that ticks all the boxes:p |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
What about the Street Triple? A slightly less powerful version of the D675 engine so youll likely like it with nakedness so you will perhaps know when you are going quick.

now the speed triple... that sounds interesting... edit: it's not so much a self control problem, it's just that the 675 is a weapon that's wasted on the road, i rarely used 3rd gear and almost never got to 4th |

I can't stop looking at 250 2-strokes at the moment. While evrything else is scarce in NZ, there are loads of NSR's ans RGV's. RS250s go for stupid money, but the Suzuki's and Honda's are coming in at just over a grand (pounds). I can afford it but can't jusitfy it + I have no space in the garage....... |

3 perfect bikes......for 3 completely different purposes..... a) Touring b) Mental Hooning c) Track playing Bloody hard work choosing between them three :( I think no matter what you do, you will always wish you had done one of the other.....and will probably end up doing all three instead LOL |

My brother had one. I rode it, I was left feeling distinctly unimpressed and failing to see what the fuss was all about. In the spirit of recommending bikes you own ;) 4 - 6K should get you a nice tidy K4 / K5 GSXR 750. If you can afford the insurance, it'll do everything your 675 did, but in a more comfortable relaxed way... 4 - 6K will also get you Ducati 749S, not sure its quite a good a long distance scratcher as the GSXR but again it'll do what your 675 did and you get that wow factor that maybe the GSXR doesnt give, but the 675 did.. :p |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
Back to your thread, I'd definitely buy back and track the Daytona. You should get it for a good price, and puttting it onto the track is way cheaper than the road
Then I'd buy a Superduke  |

Because it was THAT good. |

maybe a ducati, but tbh i suspect it'll feel equally wasted on the road as the 675 the idea of another sportsbike is starting to seem like a worse idea the more i think about it, whereas the superduke idea is growing on me... |

or... buy a superduke for road and track, then use leftover moneys to get one of these to cart it around in: http://allworldcars.com/wordpress/wp..._sportline.jpg |

Re: Replacing the Daytona...
My bricklayer has a superduke that he replaced his ducati with.
His intentions were that it was going to keep him out of trouble as its a naked bike and he used to go everywhere flat out on his 998r. The reality after I had a go on it is that its a hooligan! It inspires you to open the throttle and hang on for dear life. Its a great bike (I'm biased as I wont ride anything elsethan a KTM offroad now), fast, light and a hell of a giggle :D |
Re: Replacing the Daytona...
Buy an 09 ZX10R and stick a middle finger up to society!!

I would be very surprised if you couldn't buy back the wreck & sell for a profit, so at the very least do that or keep as you see fit. Sounds like go with your first thought of Superduke, it sounds like what you want. |
