Speedplay down
2 Attachment(s)
Well its happened again :(
I took a friend out for a ride today, set off from baston near peterborough, headed over to melton mowbray and then onto market harborough via the B6047. We got as far as Great Dalby, through the tightish left hander to find a car on our side of the road. We were close to the white lines to avoid the manhole cover thats in the centre of the road so were fairly far over so didnt have much chance to pull over. I think the car was cutting the corner and took us out. Gemma was thrown past me as the bike dropped but is fine. I have some deep bruising and a sore left nut :( The police were involved and the car driver pointed out to them that we (on the bike) wernt speeding and neither were they. The bike is going to need more than a T-cut though. Time to retire from the roads. I promised Jenn after my last off that I wasnt going to get a bike again and she talked me into it. I let her talk me into it on the provision that if I so much as dropped the bike again, I would walk away from road biking for good. So we will see how long its going to be before she wants me to get another one... |
Re: Speedplay down

Re: Speedplay down
:-( Really sorry to hear another .orger (and friend) down. Glad you're both relatively ok though.
|
Re: Speedplay down
Blimey lucky escape, that could have been alot worse
|
Re: Speedplay down
how easy does the insurance look? was the driver cooperative? must've been some indication of where you were at the time of impact?
|

First thing he did after I sorted out Gemma was to reverse his car away from the bend and to move my bike "out the way of traffic". Gonna be a hard on as there were no witnesses. I think its going to be a knock for knock on the insurance as were both with the same company. |
Re: Speedplay down
arr bugga :( buy it back off the insurance company and stick some new forks in it.

nice that the first thing he did was move the evidence and not check that you weren't injured:rolleyes: hope it goes right for you mate:smt023 |
Re: Speedplay down

Tell the driver to F#ck off he cut the corner, we all see it every day, i see it myself driving or riding. Doing it on a blindish corner is madness, from his point of view he was lucky it wasn't a truck coming the other way. |

No skid marks on the road at all :( Being completely honest here, I was only doing about 20-25 mph anyway as its a sharpish bend and I had someone on the back. The guy was really pi**y about it to start with but soon calmed down. I'm not sure whats going to happen with the insurance to be honest. I'm just glad that my mate is ok as she went a fair distance. Bikes can be replaced, but I cant see me replacing this one, not for a road bike anyway. |

Again, glad you're both OK:cool: |
Re: Speedplay down
bad news mate, glad you're both Ok
That road's a fave of mine, but would be a damn sight better without the muppet car drivers. Hope the insurance works out in your favour |
Re: Speedplay down
That's really bad news Speedplay. Hope if you do decide not to get another bike you still stay on the org???
Looks like a lucky escape. Either way hope you make the choice that's best for you. |
Re: Speedplay down
:smt088 oh no, This is awful. I'm glad your both ok.
We see lots of folks falling off on here lately, and much as I feel sad seeing online friends come off, its much worse when I've met them. BIG hug for the pair of you for gettin off lightly under the circumstances.:grouphug: |
Re: Speedplay down
Surely there was some sort of debris at the point of impact to establish who was where. Still all aside glad you are OK
|
Re: Speedplay down

Re: Speedplay down
So glad you both walked away from it, hope things work out with the insurance
|
Re: Speedplay down
I thought it was up to the police to them to measure things/look at debris and stuff? Has the car driver bu99ered his own case by doing this? - Just mulling over thoughts really.....
Glad you're both ok anyway - looks like it could have been much much worse :) |
Re: Speedplay down
Sorry to hear this, Glad youre OKish
|
Re: Speedplay down
Spoken to kiddo today. He has a hire bike coming on Saturday. He has no idea what it is yet, all he knows is that it is a 650
|
Re: Speedplay down
Just seen this, glad everyones ok.
More of what Arty says, does this not get considered as tampering with a crime scene or whatever. I can see the guy wants to clear the road and yadayada but still just my 2 pence. |
Re: Speedplay down
i would say it makes the car driver look like he was trying to hide something, namely that it was his fault, otherwise you would leave debris there to prove your own case, still glad everyone is ok.
|
Re: Speedplay down
Oh B*gg*r! :(
Just caught up with this. Glad you are both OK. I hope everything goes well with the insurance. |
Re: Speedplay down
just seen this.. sorry to read it,.. never good.
|
Re: Speedplay down
Blimey Speedplay that's a bit of an extreme way of getting a GSXR front fork conversion. ;)
Hope things don't get too complicated. :) |
Re: Speedplay down
Well nearly a year later and this is just sorted:)
I contested the police report and the officers statement so the insurance company have delayed all their side of things too. The police report was very biased towards the car and his "scale" sketches were so far out it was like a different event. I got a letter this week from leicestershire police telling me that the officer I had complained about had been delt with and both his report and statement had been withdrawn due to being inaccurate. A letter was given to me to forward onto my insurance company asking them to remove their "evidence" from their own investigations. The insurance company dragged their feet for a while so I just happened to mention yesterday that if it was not resolved by the end of the month, I would instruct a solicitor to take this to court as I had legal cover with my policy. I then went on to mention that as the 3rd party was also insured with them, if this was not resolved sooner rather than later, the only loser would be the insurance company in the long run. Well, I now have my excess and NCB. Job done :) |
Re: Speedplay down
sweet. well done.
Though this was recent until I saw the pics. |
Re: Speedplay down
Tis nice to get it all resolved Rob.

Re: Speedplay down
Glad its finally sorted hun, good news!!
You had me worried though, I saw the thread title and thought this had just happened, I was new to the forum last May so had no recollection of the post. You scare me like that again and there'll be trouble:rolleyes: |
