Stupid new pads
Fitted new pads....well the garage did it for me when they did the C&S kit..
There's no initial bite and the lever travel has increased... should I bleed them and will that sort the problem? I'll be fitting braided hoses soon.. Should I do the cable tie the lever back thing overnight? Anyway uhh yeah, before they were really good on the I'm guessing OE pads but they were so worn down... should I stick a new set of EBC HH pads? These ones are HH Goldfrenn (crap budget I know i was poor...) |
Re: Stupid new pads
Probably just need to bed in. Give them a chance and see if they improve.

Re: Stupid new pads
Done 150+ miles on them already.....:|

Re: Stupid new pads
I've done 150 plus miles since they were fitted.
J Before the change I never really considered braided hoses. Considering it's a 10 year old bike the action was simply amazing... 1 finger braking, no problem! No matter how I tried I couldn't get the lever anywhere near the bar... even with 2 hands... and now it's just "soggy" and bleh. |

was the fluid changed ? and do you know what you are doing bleeding brakes, or is it just from reading on here ? Cheers Mark. |
Re: Stupid new pads
I don't think the fluid was changed, not really sure.
The guy at the garage test rode it (not really sure why) and I followed the instructions myself that were on the back of the pad packet.. I can manage to bleed the brakes.... I guess... haven't done it before but I haz a Haynes manual! :D I'm a clueless noobie :) |
Re: Stupid new pads
How bad are your disks ?
as to the bleeding brakes, whilst it's not hard, I've seen many who have bled their brakes for hours and not got anywhere, if you've not done it yourself before I'd suggest you get someone who has to come show you. Cheers Mark |
Re: Stupid new pads
Disks are standard ones, seem ok.. no markings or anything!
Seems an easy enough job I won't have a problem.. |
Re: Stupid new pads
Travel is a function of piston resistance, if they are sticky then you won't have much travel at all. Maybe fitting new pads has loosened the pistons off a little.

Re: Stupid new pads
I'll get some PVC tubing and bleed them through and see what happens... fit hoses... then new pads..
Edit : Found this..... http://www.fireblades.org/forums/gen...tml#post226479 not happy.. |
Re: Stupid new pads
I'd change the pads ASAP. I had a set of Goldfren pads and they wrecked my 4-month-old discs in about 2 weeks.

Re: Stupid new pads
Whilst I have never used this make so cannot comment my general experience of HH type pads are that they like it a tad warmer than OEM pads.
Initially they feel vague, but squeeze harder and they have far better stopping power than OEM. As for travel, give your callipers a full overhaul. |

Re: Stupid new pads
Thought I'd update... over the last couple of weeks since fitting they've sorted themselves out.. and I can now 1 finger brake with ease. Epic win.
