The Haynes diagram will be your best friend for a while. :)

I thought the vapour units came with decent wiring diagrams, or maybe that was just the ones I looked at.

wiring the vapor is easy knowing what you can and cant take off the sv is the sticky part

OK, start with what functions you want to utilise on the vapour, obviously the speedo... but different vapour units have different functions available.

So what do you want it to do (list everything it's capable of doing that you want it to do)?

I'm on nights so I'll take the Haynes to work with me tonight for you. :)

EDIT: Yea, I missed that bit above, the bike will run without a speedo (my K6 was doing for a couple of weeks before).

Speed sensor is the orange/red and pink wires. The black/white is ground.

The coolant sensor is a black/green wire. This goes positive when the light should illuminate, so ground the other wire on the vapour.

The RPM on a curvy I *think* is only taken from the front coil signal - which is the black/yellow wire - but my knowdge of curvies is *very* limited so I could be wrong.

Your starting issue (or lack thereof), are you getting a spark (take the front plug out, leave it connected to the HT lead, hold the plug against the frame & hit the starter - please be careful though!)?

point of note the starter dont make any noise at all nothing not even a whirl or click

Kill switch? ;) Check all the idiot switches. Starter relay/motor gone? Battery OK?

Hehe. Some people are so demanding lol.. a ;) just isn't enough :razz:

Neutral light can come on if the battery doesn't have the power to turn the starter motor. Takes a fair bit of power to turn it.

Haha.. sometimes you just need to get your hands dirty to get the most pleasing results  Should never go for a rushed job, after all there's much more pleasure in doing a job well (just like rubbing a downpipe with your hands going up and down. :toss:;))

You got a Haynes Manual (no that's not dirty! :smt075)? Check the wires on the ignition circuit. Start with the orange-white at the ICU end and gradually move your hands lower down.. THE CIRCUIT OF COURSE!

Clutch switch again? Is it the nekkid one? Some of those aftermarket levers don't actuate the clutch switch properly. Bypass it as matter of course. Also clutch switch terminal was a bit stoke-on-trent IIRC.

Tacho wire comes straight from front coil, you can use either coil feed but it is just that. There is one spark per revolution (clocks will probably need telling that somehow, some systems use one spark per 2 revolutions.)

Temp sender unit, take a radiator hose off, see if that dooberry fits in snugly. Otherwise I could bring a spare thermostat housing for you and see if the temperature sender will fit same thread as stock.

Speedo, RTFM. See what vapor tells you to do with their magnet/sensor.

Temp dooda fits fine in the rad hose. I mounted my speedo on the swingarm with a magnet on the brake disc. I used the vapor tacho thing, and ran it off the rear coil (read somewhere to do that, can't remember where).

right she lives :) just a quick tick over cos need to refill the coolant but she lives (yc right as usual smug git :) ) now just the electrics to sort now
so heres the thing what can i chop off and can i conect the power from the loom to the vapor also the rpm, the temp i will use the bit that came with it. can i chop out these wires

I didn't get rid of any wires, just pulled them back, wrapped them up and kept them under the tank just in case.

Re: sv wireing guru required

right heres where im at
bikes running, new indies fitted and working, all electrical gremlins sorted ( f ing cut wire mid loom f***** **** **** ), cluch needs just tighting, wires hid, new forks, on new wheel on, new levers on, headlight fixed and working, temp gauge installed,
things still to be done
speedo set up, rpm set up, new headlight caseing put on ( when i can find one), new tank put on when i pick it up (but one on it works fine), new exhaust put on when it painted (old on on at the min), pump up front tyre or replace if it is a puncture.
am well happy 9hrs of graft and ive got a working bike

joshmac 08-06-09 09:22 PM

Re: sv wireing guru required

Nice one 8)
Glad you got it going again, but really, cutting the wires mid-loom was a bit silly ;) Why would you do that?!

#runs#

Re: sv wireing guru required

run quick short stuff lol
cut due to impact damage was a lucky spot after 3hrs of searching and swopping stuff out

joshmac 08-06-09 09:34 PM

Re: sv wireing guru required

Impact damage?.. You big clumsy oaf!
Short and nimble, or big and clumsy... hmmmmm that's a tricky one ;)

OK I really should get going now
