Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Riding home from work tonight on the A3, and just as I was going through one of the speed cameras, a Black Merc MPV (reg X457 DLH) went into the back of me!
I was a bit shocked - he backed off a bit (he probably wasn't watching) and I slowed down and pointed for him to pull over. He then accelerated and rammed me. Twice. I pulled to the side of the road, and he drove off. I caught up with him and asked him to pull over and he just shouted some abuse and then ignored me. I HATE idiots like that on the road. Police will be paying him a visit, but no witnesses stopped - that annoyed me just as much. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
rammed you how did you stay on ??? well at least ur ok
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Bloody hell. Hope you are ok, can't believe no one stopped to help you out.
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Don't know how I stayed on, but I was upright and he rammed the back tyre. Scared the crap out of me.
Didn't damage me or the bike, although police have said I need to get it checked out in case it's out of alignment. |

Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
I had a similar thing a couple of years ago but thankfull it was only the once she hit me and we were only doing 10-15mph in slow moving traffic at the time.
Scary as hell isn't it  Turned out she was on the phone, but again i got the same attitude from her, shes screaming at me to get out of her way while i'm pointing at the side of the road for her to pull over. Police who attended were pathetic sadly and just let her drive off and proceeded to try and give me a road asfety lecture. Glad you kept it upright mate!! |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Ouch, ram you on a bike? wtf were they thinking!!!!
As long as you got the reg plate it's all good..... bet feck all will get done with no witnesses though.. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Jesus! Thanks **** you were alright, wtf are some people thinking? Hope he/she gets caught.
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
What a *****.
Good for staying on 3 times! Hope he gets more than a slap on the wrists. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
F**king hell.
What a complete ***t. I certainly hope he gets done for that. Time for compensation for the shock, I think. I take it you've spoken to the insurance too. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
he aint goin to get done for fook all with no witnesses. Fookin ****** !!!
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
and peolpe wonder why bikers take the law into there own hands
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
in my world people like this would get done for attempted murder. Someone who has no care of the consequences to your life and wrecklessly endangers it.
However i know the justice system here wont see it that way, sad to say. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
am sure there is someone who can trace the reg for ya !! :-dd
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
you can pay the DVLA a small fee and they'll provide you with the registered keepers name and address
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
would the speed camera have picked it up??
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Isn't that technically leaving the scene of an accident?
|
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
And driving without due care, and carless/dangerous driving, manslaughter, ABH/GBH and Oh, being a utter ****.

Yea I reckon "leaving the scene of an accident"
Maximum penalty is: 6 months imprisonment, a £5,000 fine, a discretionary ban (at the magistrates will) and 5-10 penalty points however that all depends on the extent of the damage / injuries. Have you been injured? Twisted knee / wrenched back, etc Might be worth noting anything like this so the police can persue a case for leaving the scene. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Thanks all for your comments of abuse against he idiot :)
The police registered both leaving the scene of an accident, and also passed it on to the criminal justice department... they said if it was just the one bump that would be one thing, but the fact that he hit me a further two times turned it from an accident to a criminal act. Christ - if I hit a biker in my car I'd be bloody thankful he stayed upright... why go back and try again?!?! Will call the insurance company tomorrow - was too late when I got home tonight. I'm pretty resigned to nothing happening, but the police said they'd be checking all cameras and CCTV in the area, so fingers crossed they do. I don't think the trap I was going through went off, but then I was going at an indicated 50 (so probably about 45) so he could easily have been going an indicated 60 without it going off :( |

Bike looks fine, though will get it checked. I've got a tail tidy, so the back wheel is the furthest thing back on the bike. It's not actually the first time I've been hit from behind - I was waiting at a junction when a clio bumped me, but only very lightly (such that I just thought I'd stalled it). At least the guy checked I was ok that time though! |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
I love how in this country you get done for creeping over the speed limit but you do something insane like trying to murder someone on a bike and the police aren't interested. Sad little world we live in.

Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
If it were me id put up a mock police notice asking witness' to phone you/police!
Unbelievable!!! All the best in the persuit for justice! Toss*r deserves at least his licence banned for a while as that will have the greatest affect - as hes driving a merc im sure he'd happily pay the fine! But not bieng able to drive to work would seriously dent his wallet! Just glad you and the bike are ok matey! All the best. |

And no, not like that, lol. Seriously tho, back pain can easily be caused by that kind of a shunt. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Will see how I feel in the morning. What's the best plan for getting the bike checked? It seems to ride fine, but I guess it's worth being sure.
Should I just take it to my localish Suzuki dealer (Steve Jordan Bookham/P&H Crawley) |

Mum rolled into somebody at 0.01mph it must have been because she went to move forward as the car in front had crossed the white line at the roundabout, and somebody claimed for whip lash against her. They investigated the bumper of my mum's car to check for damange (in 100% honesty it was as it had been) and the bloke said it looks as good as new. They may want to check your bike from their perspective, as it will have left a dirty mark on that BMW if your moving at approx 45mph to 50mph. Best of luck with getting this bloke what he deserves. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off

Doesn't have to be a Suzuki dealer.. any bike dealer should be able to check it for you. If you're just checking the alignment, you could take it to an MOT tester, explain what happened and ask if he could check the alignment of the wheels. Definitely worth getting a professional to check it over if you're not 100% what to look for |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off

Minimum charge is likely to be £57.50 for an hours work and the only thing I can think they would check would be wheel Alignment. I know tey do that check as part of a complete suspension set up - shame there's not much adjustment on the SV or you could have gone down that route. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
take the reg to the post office( odd place i know) but they used to have to give you the address of the reg number. not sure if its been changed or not. and possibly pay then a small visit. or go and take pics of the front bumper etc. glad your ok, and watch out for merc drivers, bmw drivers and van drivers.. there the worst

I was thinking last night actually what he's say when they paid him a visit... If he says "don't know anything about it" they can just check his bumper - there's bound to be scuff marks. If he says "yes but it was somehow the biker's fault" then he must surely be done for leaving the scene. Either way, I still feel fine this morning (although not entirely looking forward to my biking into work now!) |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
right complain about your back, neck wrist today. if theres no bike damage or no one injured nothing will come of it.
a sore back will not only get him nicked but also get you a new set of leathers, tyers and possably something for the missus :) |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Happy for you that you managed to stay upright. I think this is a perfect example of why motorcyclists should not get road rage when being cut up, nearly hit or indeed as in this case actually hit. Them people in those cars can do an awful lot of serious damage if they so chose. It just is not worth getting road rage. As a motorcyclist you are just too damn vulnerable. Not saying you had road rage and this was why you were bumped several times, just that your case is a good example of how vulnerable we are. I hope justice is served and something positive happens in your favour.
Oh and this is posted in the wrong section. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
That is unbelieveable!! Although i'm not surprised he shot you a torrent of abuse and drove off. A guy reversed into my car once in a Tesco car park and he just played the big 'un and tried to scare me into just saying 'ok forget it'. I suppose if you couldn't get him to stop there's not much you could have done.
Makes you wonder how many accidents there are where this kind of thing happens. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
BMW/mercs/vans as stated are generally (note not all) ******s. I've had people speeding (doing 40+) in build up housing areas (30 zones) try to ram me outta the way. When the road has spilt into 2 lanes they've then gone side by side and hurled abuse at me. Even had one real arsehat (after i showed him the finger :P) swerve to try and hit me!!
That dude in this case should get a driving ban and a fine, cos 3 times is imho as someone stated attempted murder or GBH. Hopefully when he loses his license then his job and then hopefully his house. Come on karma!! |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
No witnesses so I doubt anything will come of it unless the driver is stupid (or honest) enough to admit what he did. I got hit by a bus once and the bus company denied that they had a bus on the road at that time so the police dropped the case.

Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
I would not get your insurance involved at this stage mate, if it turns out that their is nothing wrong with your bike it will cause you bother when you come to renew (the same thing happened to me).
Take it to your local dealer, tell them you want a quote for damage for your insurance company as it may be going through your insurance. They will give you a quote and shouldnt charge for it. I took my Z1000 to M&S in Durham who are a Honda dealer and they quickly checked to see if it was all straight for me, took about 30 mins and they never charged me a penny. Good luck and well done for hanging on, like I said, been there, done that and it ****s you up big time. Hope you get it all sorted bud |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
As above, I'm thinking that a sore back or stiff neck would force the issue to be followed through - if not by the police then by the insurance company. Would he not then lose his no-claims (assuming he has any)? Not to mention, what insurance company is going to want to touch him after it comes out that he's used his vehicle as a weapon and fled the scene?
And if all else fails, well Karma is still a B!tc# - epsecially when it finds out where you live and lobs a balloon full of brake fluid at the hood of your Mercedes in the middle of the night. |
Re: Got rammed by a Merc MPV... 3 times... then he drove off
Unbelivable
Well done for staying on. Glad you're alright. Fingers crossed the plod will give him a serious talking to. |
