Do I change my tyres now or after a trip to France?
trip to France.
Hmmm - in 2 weeks time going to France for a week. checking bike over and the tread appears to be around 4mm front (loads?) and 2.5 -4mm rear (diablo strada so no tread in centre makes it difficult to judge?) of course all depends on distance planned of which unsure at the moment. Surely these are good for 2k though? Think they been on for about 8k but seems a waste to get more already..... Opinions please! thanks |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
You've had the same back tyre for 8k miles?:o
I'd change it |

DarrenSV650S - yep reckon must be about 8k but don't look to bad. the diablo strada's seem to last well. |

Seriously though, its not as difficult as you might imagine. Very friendly place as long as you arent in a trawler. |

To be fair maybe i just ride like an old git!!!:D Seriously though although I don't go everywhere mega fast, I don't go that slow either. |

But I would still change it. When I went to france I put a new tyre one. Then when I got back I ran it until it was dead, then put the part worn one back on |

just been looking at reviews for the strada that i have got and apparently when new it has a 8mm deep tread which is larger than a lot of others? maybe this is the reason they last me so well. starting to think about going for new ones now - if we end up in the alps or something then if nothing else it will be a psychological thing? Damn - more expense! |

keep em on, as you'll square off the new tyres on the French roads....

i'd be tempted to change it for all the motorway miles youre gonna be doing but maybe let some air out first and tap the centre of the tyre and then the sides and see if that gives you any indication of how thin the centre might be just now. in fairness most of my commute on them was motorways so the sides looked like they were almost new when the centre started to dissapear. |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
If you are in doubt, change them. It will spoil your trip if you are constantly worrying about how much tread you have left.
|
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
having made the mistake of" they will be fine for another trip" i say change them!
|
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
Change them, keep the 'old' tyres, and use them once you have used the new ones up..
4mm front and 2-2.5 mm is too much to waste. Garage won't be unhappy about you taking away the old tyres, as they won't have to get rid of them. |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
Change them.
Diablos wear out without warning. Trust me I know! Also tyre places are not that frequent. Imagine trying to get a new tyre in a part of the world you don't know in this country let alone abroad where a lot of bike shops shut Monday, or used to, as well. |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
I think you'd be daft to leave them on, if the roads get a bit wet you're asking for trouble. It's not like you haven't had your money's worth from the tyres anyway.
If you change them, you might even enjoy the trip more as tyre concerns won't be in the back of you mind. |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after.......
Well, surely you'll get another rear to that front, 4mm on a Strada is like LOADS of miles anyway, especially on the front..
so just buy a rear. :) |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after a trip to France?
Swap them over for new ones..
Keep the olds ones for one last track day or something. |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after a trip to France?
Could have had them swapped and done by now :-)
What does a new set cost, something like £200 maximum. You might get another £10 worth of riding out of them if you are lucky. Personally I would have replaced them and forgotten about it by now. |
Re: Do I change my tyres now or after a trip to France?
Swap them, why potentially ruin a trip to get a few extra miles, you have had your moneys worth out of them to be fair.
Also, they must surely feel terrible already, some new tyres after 8k will feel like a transformation. |
