Has anyone heard of Motoshop UK??

Had a call from them just now. Apparently they are (effectively) a broker for finance and introduce loans to Barclays (amongst others). They say they have someone who would like to buy the bike at the price I'm asking but who needs finance. So far so good. There is a 'registration fee' for using them - £79. I get it back if the bike sells. They get paid commission by the lender. I don't want to lose £79 but equally I do want to sell the bike.

I have a direct UK phone no (landline in London 0207) and a name, so it's not a Nigerian scam. And they answer the phone 'Motoshop'. The number on their site is a Swindon number.

I instinctively think 'eh' but that's because I've not heard of them before.

alot of those kind of companys will call you Ed, id ignore them and sell it on your own, why pay someone else to do it.

Absolute ********......if thats the case then why didnt the interested party conact you direct.

These people are known as canvassers, you should have put no canvassers in your add, but to be fair that wont always put them off ringing.

Steer clear ED. This is a almost definately a scam....I had a similar experience when selling a car a few years back. Paid em £80 to advertise it and never heard from them again or even saw an advert.

So you pay them £79 and if they sell the bike they give you the money back?
And say they don't actually bother doing anything and they dont sell your bike what then happens to your 79 quid?

You'll never get your money back or hear from them again

Canvassers can go eat a spunk flavoured lollipop...:cool:

If there's someone who wants to buy your bike......................... tell them to pay you the 79quid. You'll pay it back once the bike sells :D

Ed, tell 'em to get stuffed. If a buyer needs finance they can go and get it themselves. Dont get involved.

My brother used a similar type of firm whilst selling his car.... they rang him out of the blue with an "interested buyer" after 2 months and no sale they told him they couldn`t sell it and he lost his money!

An intelligent guy like yourself shouldn't really need to be asking this.

Give them a polite but firm 'no thank you'

dont think its same place that site just sells bike gear.
Put phone number into google will prob come back as scam
If its motorshopuk.com then run very quickly away it does not work and they do not have a buyer lined up you will lose your money and wish you had listened to all the helpful peeps on the org.

These characters just trawl the ads in Autotrader etc and if the ad runs for more than x days they target you. They won't find a buyer for you, they get their money the easy way, from you................

Lovely business model, win win for them. why bother trying to sell the bike/car etc. They have already got money from the vendor.

I can only assume the incentive for them to do some work is a huge commission on a finance deal.

Not a scam as such. but very likely to result in the vendor seeing nothing for his money

there's an easy way to avoid canvassers... Simply include the phrase "canvassers will be told to f*ck off" in your ad & the callsseem to stop :)

Don't even bother putting 'No Canvassers' in your ad, it's a waste of whatever word count the advertiser allows cos they will still call you anyway - at least 10 of the barstewards called me when I was selling my car in Auto Trader.

I used to challenge them with something along the lines of "So this 'buyer' knew about and approached your firm, which I have never heard of by the way, wanting to buy a Clio but didn't think to look in Auto Trader, one of (if not THE) biggest-selling car classifieds paper in the UK, where they would see my advert for themselves? I don't f***ing think so..."

Mine seemed to work for the bike, only had one call and they hung up when I asked if they had the advert in front of them... :)
