I hope he's going to be doing more miles than you in that car...

If not, your insurance will be void, as it's fronting. And they will check if you have a smash...:smt018

How are you going to explain the fact that your dad has a second car, yet uses his own to go to work, and also, in "his" second car, manages to rack up almost exactly the mileage you would do going to work and back yourself, while you have no apparent means of transporting yourself to work?

It'll look so fishy they'd refuse to pay out your claim, and as there would be no evidence you wouldn't be able to prove them wrong. If you're unlucky you and your dad may find yourselves answering questions about insurance fraud. If you find yourself getting caught out obtaining cover fraudulently it opens up a whole new world of difficulties getting cover in the future, lots of companies will likely refuse you cover before you even ask them for a quote, and any that do, knowing you have only a small selection that'll quote you, will charge a fortune.

Just a thought...

my dad is retired so doesnt use the car much anyway and on the other car it has my mum and brother as named drivers. If i had a crash there is no way they would be able to find out if i was doing more miles or my dad because there is other people that drive the other car and plus its not insured with the same company.

You think the insurance companies won't discuss policyholders information between themselves to help prevent people defrauding them? What's the first thing they say on the phone when you call for a quote: "We share information with other insurance companies to prevent fraud" - Chances are several of your policies are with the same underwriter anyway, even if you got them through different brokers

Hopefully you won't have to make a claim, because you'll have to come up with something a helluva lot better than you've got here to stop them forming an opinion that you were the main driver, then it's up to you to prove you weren't, which you wont be able to do, so you can kiss your claim goodbye...

Sucks doesn't it? I'm 25 in a few weeks and only now are insurance quotes starting to dip below £300

And how much would it cost to repair the damage you could cause to a 3rd party with your £600 car? That's the answer as to why premium's are so high.

Considered that it may be far more cost effective to go TPFT?

As usual Top Gear set out with a vague nod towards journalism and headed into (entertaining) farce. Concluding that a beige Volvo estate was the best thing for a young driver to get was gloriously mad. Gluing James' stereo was hillarious and Hamster's face when he told one insurance company on the phone he'd had no accidents in the last five years had me wetting myself with laughter.

I don't have a Ka for sale but have you looked at places like Trade Sales in Slough or Motorpoint? They tend to sell ex-rental cars and they can go for a song. The tatty ones will have had a very hard life but if it gets you the NCB you clearly need you can get something nicer when the premiums get more sensible in a year or two.

its asking for a ford ka, not asking what car you have, want etc

i have a few cars now that im going to check out but i cant afford all dude to the insurance you can see why people drive without insurance it cost you about £105 to get you car back from impound then £60 fine and any other fines it would cost you less than £250 to get your car back

No it wouldn't, you'd have to pay for insurance and produce the certificate in order to reclaim your car...

No you wouldn't write a letter explaining that some one else that's tp on other peoples car is picking it up like a parent or a friend and they can get it out of the impoun lot

You must live in a really rough area then to not be able to get any quotes less than that. I trust you have used all the usual comparison websites?

Are you sure?

The situation as I was aware of it was the the insurance must cover the seized vehicle, otherwise the streets would be full of chavs who got their pikey mates who do have insurance to pick their saxos up from police storage, any of our resident coppers care to clarify?

That's it, kick him while he's down :D

How much are you looking to spend on the car? ie, a reasonable Ford Ka might be cheaper on insurance but cost more in the first place than another car. Try looking at old Metro's, Fiat Uno's, etc. They should be just as cheap on the insurance but might be less to buy,

Fairly sure they have to release it to any one with the owners written consent providing the car istaxed and mot'd etc. And don't just look at the low insurance group cars as they may be seen as a higher risk because they are involved in slot of accident hency why my mate gets insurance on his mg zr and I get mine on my 1.6 rover coupe for less than another lad we know pays for the insurance on his 1litre pug

Re: Anyone got a cheap ford KA for sale??

There was an item on this subject on Moneybox yesterday on Radio4 (it might be on Iplayer). The average cost of a claim for a "young man" driver was £4k, for a young lady it was £2k, and girls were much less likely to have a claim anyway.

They recommended "pass plus" to reduce premiums by around 30%, some local authorities subsidise them apparently (I think it has to be within 12months of test). Put as high a voluntary excess as you possibly can, and DON'T CRASH!
