I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

I`m absolutely fuming.

I left work to go to my last visit of the day, started the car up and an awful grinding noise started. Long story short Mototech came out and my front suspension spring has collapsed into 2 pieces.

OMG I thought how much is this gonna cost cos this is all I need.... then I thought phew... I joined the AA a few weeks ago and at the same time took out breakdown insurance to cover all parts up to £500. I rang AA to call them out which they will do as I have relay on both my car and my bike but apparantly the breakdown insurance only covers one vehicle. I wasn`t asked which vehicle I wanted to cover and sod`s law the woman has put down my bike :( My car is my main vehicle so i obv would have chosen that but the point is she led me to believe I had relay, roadside assistance and breakdown insurance on both my vehicles.

As soon as my car is recovered I will be cancelling unless they change this over.

i thought AA covered the person not the vehicle?

So did I Keith... when I joined the woman said that it`s the person that`s covered not the vehicle :(

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

Thats what i was told too, whatever vehicle i'm in i'm covered for - even if i'm a passenger. Think i might ring and check! Sorry you've had a cr@p day :-(

Speedy Claire 13-07-09 04:26 PM

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

Just rung their main office... I kept calm, i didn`t raise my voice, i was extremely polite when I explained my situation and my annoyance, I then tolerated her whining, patronising tone of voice and I got absolutely nowhere other than them offering to change the insurance over to my car but I can`t claim for 14 days!

It`s pouring with rain so I`m now gonna go out to my car and kick it to bits and then I think i`ll run round naked in the rain screaming at the top of my voice!

AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

I'm sure this was one of their advertising campaigns a few years back. I know i've had friends in my car years ago and we broke down and one of the phoned the AA and got us recovered.
How very rubbish of them, i feel your anger for you Claire.

Yeah but I know the cops and CCTV - it never turned on/pointing the right way when you need it to be...

Well in London thats the case.

For recovery it is. For insurance covering breakdown repairs it is not.

Ah yes that as well. AA are poopy poop poop.

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

what a pile of poop.

Would you like a pile of it to throw at them?

From what i've seen in other threads in bike issues, both AA and RAC are pretty poor. I'm glad Carol Nash do the whole package included in the policy. I know I can't drive, but if I did I'd like to think I was covered just as much with that as I am with the bike.

wouldn't think it's gonna cost that much to get a spring fixed SC, just ring local garage for quote..

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

I`ve just got home from work!!!!!

First AA patrolman arrived and even though i`d told them that the suspension spring had collapsed and possibly the strut they sent him but he couldn`t move the car so had to call a flat thing lorry. By this time it was raining cats and dogs, it was truly coming down in buckets and I only had my uniform on (I`d redressed after running round the car park naked) Still he was a nice bloke and we had a good chat and a laugh, he rides a CBR1000. Just as I was getting concerned that they`d have to lock the gates to the car park the other vehicle finally arrived. I had time to get a nice picture of the very nice AA man doing an org lunge but sadly for some reason it didn`t store on my phone :( So off I went with the other AA man who resembled Barry Manilow. First Mr AA Man commented on how we`d shared a nice bonding session but I then informed him that with the amount of ratchet straps on the flatback lorry it looked like i`d be sharing a bondage session!!!

As I`d got nowhere with the AA I had the car relayed to Mototechs house and he`ll do the work for me. He very kindly then lent me his bright orange van :D

Drove home, attempted to pull into my road but there was a fire engine blocking the main road. Crap I thought... i`m very sorry for who ever has probably set their chip pan on fire whilst deep frying their fish fingers but I just want to get home :-( Then I thought hang on.... fire engine = firemen!!! hoorah :smt055

At this point in time I got a bit excited but this was short lived because I suddenly remembered that:-

a) I`m soaked wet thru and my hair that was washed this morning and looked nice is now sticking to my head in wet strands and I`m resembling Medusa

b) I`m in a bright orange van :-(

c) My St. Tropez false tan that i had applied at lunch time and should be showered off tomorrow morning to reveal a subtle silky bronze finish has now actually started to come off in all the rain so rather than a sun bronzed goddess I`m now looking like i`ve been tangoed with the orange of the van complementing my orange streaks!

Cal me ungrateful for the loan of the van (and I`m not) but all the above is so not a good look when faced with 8 strapping firemen :(

I`m now home, sod the car, sod the St. Tropez I`m gonna open a bottle of red and to hell with it i`m off work tomor.

WHAT A DAY!!!

PS: On a positive note tho I have just found out that it is only the suspension spring, strut is ok so nope it shouldn`t be too expensive.

Bibio 13-07-09 07:57 PM

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

and the lesson learnt from this is - don't ware fake tan! coz you never know when your gonna score...

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

Spring: forty quid or so

Fitting: max two hours labour (should only take 1 for a pro) @ 35 quid an hour (non main-dealer price)

Max damage: £110

Worth not bothering with the AA for that I'd say.

to avoid any repeat of your day i would strongly advise you have the other side spring replaced aswell.
i know you probably wont because hardly any of our customers do at work but there is probably a 50/50 chance of the other 1 going in the next few months aswell.(its impossible to tell, could go tomorrow, could last years, but it was made the same time and has done the same work as the other side(unless its been changed previously))

The first thing Mototech and both AA patrolmen said was that it was the excessive use of speed bumps in the area in which I work that have caused the problem... I`ll ask Mark to check the other side out tho so many thanks

Many thanks and yep I am soooooooo tempted BUT......

They`ve now changed the breakdown insurance over to my car and for £7 a month in 14 days I know that any repairs to my car up to the cost of £500 will be free. So I`m truly not sure what to do

Re: I don`t often get angry but!!!!!

Second the comment to replace the other side as well, yes it is an easy job. springs are not too expensive etc.

I had to do my lads a few weeks a go after his failed its MOT because of a broken spring and he had not noticed.

Coil spring failures are still maintained with the strut, however they will not sit within the mounting plates squarely and you can end up with a jagged bit of spring being forced out in contact with the body/tyres etc. Potential for serious damage is nasty.

This, however is yet another thread as to why people should ask searching questions of their recovery service before signing up and parting with hard earned brass

OMG Speedy, I'm exhausted having read your posts, sounds like you had quite a day! But it sounds like you should break down again just to get another sneaky peak at the nice AA rescue man!...and this time take a fully charged digital camera and take many pics!

Hope you have recovered from your ordeal and that you aren't too streaky!
