that blu ray thing
is it worth starting to get blu ray's instead of dvd's can you actually tell the difference or is it still for the film buff elite only i now have two device's to play them the ps3 and my pc and a full hd tv but i don't know if it's even worth it being how much more they are than standard dvd's opinion's anybody :D.

Re: that blu ray thing
Depends how fussy you are. If you play a Blu Ray onto a HD 1080p you'll see stuff that doesn't even appear on a dvd thro' to ordinary tv - trees, lamposts, guy sat in car with gun (you only see the car).
Equally i've seen a cr@p story line on a Blu Ray and it was still cr@p. It only improves the quality of the pic, not the overall package. |
Re: that blu ray thing
i think i'd be getting blu ray's i'd know were good i'm tempted with transformer's 2 on blu ray when it's out as i think i may actually tell the difference with a film like that maybe.

We watched the latest indiana jones film a while ago on Blue ray on our HD Tv, the picture is brilliant, but it really shows up where they've stiched the CGI stuff into the film, where they've used a tank instead of the actual sea / river and where they've built a false town on a set rather than shooting on location. We're not replacing what we have on DVD already, but anything new that comes out we'll be getting on Bluray now instead of DVD. |
Re: that blu ray thing
has the original star war's trilogy been remastered onto blu ray yet.

Re: that blu ray thing
mmm'm, it does show up faults, even poor makeup departments.
I like Blu Ray, and i'm glad i got it. Also, my player 'upscales' my old dvd's. |
Re: that blu ray thing
Yep my new player Upscales and DVD's look great on my new full HD Tv. But won't buy a Blue ray player until this one goes pop.
But well impressed with Sky +HD, films are great and the Tour de France is good on eurosport HD too. But be warned not all of Eurosport HD is transmitted in HD format. |
Re: that blu ray thing
would there be a programme i could get to upscale my dvd's on the pc i know the ps3 does upscaling though so not massively fussed.

Re: that blu ray thing
If you have a PS3 and a TV, go and rent a decent (Blu-Ray) movie and give it a try...
Transformers 1 might be a good option. Films like Shrek, Toystory and The Magic Roundabout seem to be even better on Blu-Ray compared to other films. In terms of quality i mean, not neccesirily (cant spell, had a few beers) story line etc. They are completely computer generated and don't suffer from any noise for example. give it a try. A good film on full 1080p quality is immense. (Maybe not Magic Roundabout though...) |

Re: that blu ray thing

Re: that blu ray thing
depend on the film. films like pans labyrinth look amazing whereas 28 days later looks better as standard def.
|
Re: that blu ray thing
i went full HD just before christmas. panny 42" plasma, panny blu-ray, yamaha 7.1 HD amp, infinity 2x5.1 surround speakers (yes that 2 subs and 10 speakers) and virgin HD. the sound is where its at with blu-ray as picture quality can vary a LOT, some movies are breathtaking but others look just like DVD i have even had one that looked like good vhs.
was it worth all that cash.. hell yes, much more enjoyable experience. |
Re: that blu ray thing
I agree with the comments made here, it does depend on the film being watched. As a choice I would save my money for better things, say for instance a good surround system.
Blu ray to me just highlighted faults with make up, hair, special effects, to the point that it sometimes ruined my viewing of films. |
