Still has a few rough corners I need to smooth out but she's a beaut, well, to an engineer's eye anyway, got a face like Jade Goody:o

It's nothing if not a little different I'll give you that, but when I test rode it my impression was of some kind of schizophrenic machine, 130mph armchair one minute then supermoto handling on the B roads the next, all combined with a bike that'll happily do the paris-daker rally the next day... See if you can get a go, if only to try something different:D

Nah, I'm too scared (or sensible) to ride a sportsbike anywhere near it's capabilities on the road, with me onboard I'll go just as fast on this, without feeling like I'm wasting 80% of what the bike can do...

Plus, yes, there's some kind of eurotrip on the horizon...;)

That looks like a giggle. Unfortunatly someone's messed up the number plate on that and your car. You need to be careful about this or the ANPR justice system won't work properly, and that's cheating;)

I've not tried a big tralie yet, but I think it looks like a lot of fun, but then I'm built like a spider monkey. Supervox was quite supprised when I could swing a leg over his GS from the right side when it was on the side stand:D

In short, gis a go mister:cool:

If you looka little closer you'll spot this is the "S" model, which has an extra 2 inches suspension travel and ground clearance, giving a seat height of 915mm, or to put it another way, about 8cm longer than my inside leg measurement... I'm only 5'8.5 (the ".5" matters) with long legs, and can *just* tippy toe this one on level ground with the lowered gel seat, the guy i bought it off was shorter than me:smt082

If you're at the AR you're more than welcome to take her for a spin round the field:cool:

But its not orange :(

Anyway, good for you. New bikes always a time for celebrations. Even if this model always reminded me of a slug with its head raised off the floor.

You bringing this to the AR then?

Oh mate that`s a corker , you`ve probably found your biking Nirvana now . I`ve always been an advocate of KTM`s and have plans for the 990 SMR or the new variant of it that`s a cross between a Supermoto and your bike . I like the adventures and would rather have one of them than a BMW for bang per buck thrills . Chuffed for you feller :)

PS . What size is the tank on that Puppy , I bet you get sore buttox before you need to refuel :)

Re: Guess the new bike...

Well I left at 11:45 and have just walked in and fed the dog, she's going to ignore me for the rest of the evening now for going out and leaving her...

1st impressions, bugger me it's big, i'm going to have to be careful where I park this one cause on my dad's road with a bit of camber I physically couldn't lift it off the sidestand enough to jump on, and I'm not a skinny beanpole really... kerbs are my friend here

Definitely not as refined as the 2009 model, bars vibrate more, FI is a bit twitchy but totally manageable if you're used to V-Twins. Like the 2009 model it's also faster than you think 90 comes round on the speedo extremely quick without having to use anywhere near full power, ~70lbft of torque ftw

Handling is a giggle, with a foot of suspension either end it;s never going to feel sportsbike taut, but it flicks around extremely quickly for a bike of it;s size and weight, the upside tot he suspenders is that speedbumps no longer seem to exist, on the 560SMR it always used to absorb them fine at 30mph but jolt you around, this thing sails over them like they don't exist, without disturbing your seating position in the slightest, perfect for the island roads

That's about it really, the extra height is going to take some getting used to, but being able to see over the top of things like renault scenics is a big plus when picking your way through traffic...

To answer a few questions:

@Spidey: yep, loading her up with camping kit and the AR is the "weekend away" test run, it has an aftermarket "Rugged Roads" rack on the back which should fit my tent/sleeping bag/mat etc perfecty...

@Badger: Tanks are 22l combined, fuel range supposedly isn't the best and is one area the 1200GS trumps the KTM resoundingly, 200 miles would be tempting fate even with gentle throttle usage. Fortunately there's always places to strap extra tanks if needs be but should last longer than any sportsbike and any fuelstop on any rideout bar a cross desert rally

@Geneticbubble: Are you going to the AR? If you fancy a spin in the field then let me know, it's bloody tall though:D

@Greek: Aye, they're crafty buggers... I know where they are on the island though so can choose my crash locations to avoid them:p

@punyXpress: Definitely foresee some sanding of the crash bars during the elefantentreffen:D

@Speedy Claire: How tall are you? Just went and measured it on it;s centre stand, the front wheel touching the ground the back wheel about an inch off it, the windscreen comes in at about 5'3":D

@custard: HUGE with a capital H:mrgreen:

@skeetly: On a bike like this, it looks naked without big all-road panniers on it:D

@captainsmelly: Yep, two fuel tanks, one either side of the frame, they're linked with a pipe so you don't have to flick between them while riding but they both need filling separately

In summary:

:smt040:smt040:smt040

Well I tell ya what Wolfy , I was hammering it back from seeing Metallica at the O2 last September , was basically me on the M1 all on my lonesome and one of these puppies turned up from nowhere , he beeped me as he went past and pointed at the back of his number plate , local plate like mine in North Wales , I flashed him to acknowledge and off he went . I was in the upper range of 6th gear ;) cruising happily and making good progress , never saw them again as they hoofed off at a nice rate of knots .......... I was actually jealous of the speed and tank range and knew that git would be home before me despite my endurance for saddles and miles .

It'd be like teaching your child to ride their first bike, running alongside holding the pannier rails to keep you upright to start with:D

Sounds about right, there's lots of torque and power but it has the aerodynamics of a brick with parachutes on, up to 50mph is comfortable with visor open, with your visor shut there's only minor turbulence until you're up near triple digits. Not quite as long range cruise as the GS but I'm only a young whippersnapper so can cope with the lack of luxury, the smile inducing handling makes up for it easily:cool:
