Mother in law ill
She was diagnosed with leukeamia on thursday and is staying in Mayday for 'a while'. Fortunately they found it before she started feeling ill but we're all scared about the chemo, can only hope she gets better quick. :(
I have now realised how rubbish the nhs is, and would hate for my wife to be in a place like that. Funny how you know how many people get cancer, and you always think it'll never be anyone close to you.. She's being brave though as is my wife, and one of her other daughters anyway. Get well soon Christine. |
Re: Mother in law ill
good luck to you all mate
hope things go smoothly for her |
Re: Mother in law ill
Best wishes to Christine for a full and speedy recovery. I think that as far as the chemotherapy is concerned it`s brilliant that they have diagnosed the leukaemia before she became poorly and will greatly increases her chances of recovery. I`m sure you`ve been told of the unpleasant side effects and how much chemotherapy can zap a persons physical strength so the more healthy and strong you are prior to the treatment the better.
Big hug to your wife and her family, if I can help with any advice etc just pm me x Could I add here that one thing i`ve noticed is that when somebody posts a thread such as this as well as the kind wishes some people do tend to reply with their own negative experiences of cancer ie. death. I feel that in situations like this the OP needs to remain positive and focused on recovery. When people introduce negativity into the thread it does nobody any good. Imagine how it would feel to post a thread saying my ...... has cancer then having to read loads of posts saying "when I lost my mother etc to cancer" Now imagine how great it would feel to post a thread such as this and read post after post of well wishes and positive messages of support. Lets just remain positive for Captain Smelly and Christine and keep our experiences unless positive to ourselves. |
Re: Mother in law ill
My own personal message of support is that I have a friend who was diagnosed with the most acute form of leukaemia 16 years ago.... he has been in remission for 15 years and is still working and extremely healthy x

Staff make it clear they don't want to help, or even be there. The hospital is so miserable and depressing its like a prison, she's made to feel like a burden on the nhs. just sucks |
Re: Mother in law ill
One of my collegues was diagnosed with this last year, and she's coming back to work in September!
She's fine and finally been given the all clear, what we did at work was all keep a journal of what was happening and all the funny things that went on, and I know this kept her spirits up and she looked forward to them each week, especially at one point as she was quarentined from her family and friends. I can't wait to see her back again! |
Re: Mother in law ill
Hi there, that's awful news but cancer treatments are excellent these days, chemo is tough but it is a means to an end.
My Dad has Multiple Myeloma a cancer of the blood. I have to say the NHS have done hime proud. Wards are quite poor but they're over stretched, in terms of treatment we couldn't ask for more. They've without doubt saved his life on two occasions. I know it's the luck of the draw on the NHS but there are some good stories out there. Best of luck |
Re: Mother in law ill

Re: Mother in law ill
My only experience of the NHS is maternity and Paediatrics, but i have to say that i have nothing but praise for the way that my family and i have been treated over the years. If the nurses pay and working conditions truly reflected the effort and commitment displayed by the staff i encountered then hospitals would be more pleasant places.
Sorry for the de-rail...best wishes to your MIL for a speedy recovery xx |
