In need of a cheap intercom.

Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
I posted a similar post a while back and everybody told me not to get cheap as they are rubbish and buy autocom, well, i did and its very good.
Me and the wife went down to evesham yesterday on the bike at all speeds and the clarity wasnt affected regardless of speed. My only gripe with autocom is the fiddly headset you have to install in your lid. Sticky velco onto the lining in your lid, earphones attach to that, very difficult trying to line it up perfectly with my ears. They keep coming loose when putting on or removing lid so thats a bit annoying but apart from that brilliant. Phil |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
Why spoil a nice ride by letting the mrs moan in your ear all day?!

Joking apart, it has made mrs specialone more relaxed on the bike cos i can tell her when im gonna be accelerating quicker than normal etc and she can tell me she needs to shift her ass around because of numbness and im not having the back end wobble on me unexpectedly. |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
your a funny man .
but seriouslyyy , how much is the autocom thing? |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
If its for your misses stop being a fanny and just shout
|
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
I paid £200 for mine, but there was 2nd hand ones on ebay for half that when i looked.

Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
My Mrs spoils a good ride sometimes and sticks her @rse on the back.
If I'm going to be pulling away a bit quick I just quickly touch her thigh. Job done. Every now and again I'll touch her knee and she will squeeze a bit harder with her thighs to let me know shes ok. If she needs to stop for anyreason she will tap my hip. Why bother with the extra cost? I guess it would be different if it was touring europe for days on end but once you get used to eachother on a bike, you dont need to talk. |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
its a 140 mile ride out though. its a day of riding with a few stops. i just think it would be nicer for her

I have not idea how good the Oxford one is, however at that price I would pay a bit more and go for the Autocom - I have had the same Autocom kit for about 8 years I think, and it still works very well. HTH |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
sorry,
whats the autocom kit you have ? |

Hardwires to bike, can listen to music , pillion, phone & satnag at silly speeds, even with earplugs in. Very comfortable, steroe speakers fit a treat in to my Arai lids. I did try a cheaper intercom before I bought the Autocom - could not hear a thing over 40mph, and the earpieces were very uncomfortable. |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
ive found a second hand M2 on ebay ? what can be said about those ?
|
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
Not sure if the M2 is older or new than mine so not sure how it compares
Is the link this one??? If so, looks like a good price, however might need to check whether it has the extension leads - with my kit, the leads are hardwired into the box, the mike & speakers are connected in to the helmets, and then there is an extension lead that connects the two together, I use a curly one (like this) for me and a straight one for my pillion. Might be worth asking the seller if they still have the extension leads? |

thats the link. ive asked him about his/her description as it does mention some sort of lead? |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
autocom is top..
They are so popular on e bay though.. brilliant bit of kit .. can hear mandy at over 100 easily.. and as said above good for bum shifting ..and overtaking.. if she nags just undo it. |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
is the one in the link any good?
|
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
these was recommended to me by the local bike school http://www.intaride.com/ and they are based in redditch so not far from you, although personally i have an autocom and yes the autocoms are as good as every one says

Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
that websites terrible , cant find a price anywhere ?
i think if the seller comes back to me soon on the M2 i may just go ahead with that |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
I didnt have a problem with finding a price
choose the type of communication then say you want bike to bike choose configer then choose the parts you want which headsets which radios ect then at the end get a price for your individual needs just be a little patient its not a one piece of kit fits all its an expandable one to suit your needs |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
ah. they should do a video tutorial on that :)
im a web designer so its still terrible in terms of looks and useability :) |

Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
Look at the Autocom website (sadly they still do pdfs but at least they load quicker now), all you need is the Logic but remember you'll also need an 2nd headset & lead. No need to hardwaire unless you want to, but better in the long run if used a lot. You may find a local dealer but I've tended to but direct, delivered next day and on occasions saveda few bob as well
specialone - What lid, headphones normally go under the ear piece lining eg Arai |
Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
Can't reccomend autocom enough. i have an Active Plus Duo which is the 2008 model, one up from their most basic. I use it fore MP3, satnav, phonecalls and talking to the Mrs - and yes, she will only ride with the intercom as she feels safer if she can talk to me (to tell me to slow down mostly). The unit will also handle bike to bike radio if you so wish. they were selling them off a while back for £100 with both headsets, but I don't know if they will be now. If you just want to talk to the GF on the back, any autocom from the last few years will be fine. If you google the names you'll get loads of info from BMW GS forums etc. If you want to expand it to listen to music etc, I'd reccomend one of the 2008 / 2009 range as they are stereo rather than mono. It is important when buying second hand to check all the leads etc are included as spares from autocom are quite pricey, and the cost of buying headsets etc might eliminate any savings from geting second hand kit.

Re: In need of a cheap intercom.
sorry to dig this up from page 3 but i thought youd like to know how i got on.
i bought an oxford bikemike 3 for £57 and it arrived today. so for the first time ever. i took my 15 stone father as a pillion to test it out! it was crystal clear at 30-60-75 and slight wind noise at 85. perfect! little box that all the crap plugs into and hey presto. if theres anyone reading this that needs a cheap intercom. go for the bikemike 3. its awesome |
