Carbon pron

Probably Hitlers trick part BUT this is worth seeing twice.

Credit to this goes to tygaboy on the San Fransisco Bay Area Riders Forum
Original thread is Here

Class build, and I would encourage anyone to go and skim through the whole writeup. You will be reading a while but it is a cool read. I will hopefully be trying some composite work of my own soon

Someone on the CBR forum just bought some carbon fairing for a bargain £300

I wish I had the money to buy them lol

The picture the bloke posted of them fitted is quite disturbing, but amazing at the same time.

Tygaboy, that dude is awesome.

I read all of his stuff some time ago, pure inspiration.

It a shame he doesn't post as much over at BARF, I think he is busy elsewhere with his business. But what he has written is everything you need. He also has a few vids on YouTube from the CF party's he held. Again its very useful stuff though I can't find the links at the moment.

I've been wanting to try my hand at this for a while now, so if you do start keep me posted. What I really need to do is find a suitable UK supplier...

The CBR has a plastic tank cover

Thanks, that's what I thought, so it's basically for show. CF not being substantially lighter than plastic?

Tank cover is fairly essential as it covers the ecu and a crap load of other stuff.

However, if weight is the key - bang for buck, I'd just go on a feckin diet!

Exactly! You'd have to 'carbon-fibre-ise' the whole bike and then some to get the same weight saving!

or at least make sure you have a big poo/don't have a big meal before riding your bike

Have you ever weighed poo? (it doesn't weigh that much ) So you would have to be pretty backed up down there for it give a real perfomance advantage :p

no, surprisingly i haven't :-). i wonder how much/what you'd have to carbon-fibre-ise to make the same weight saving as a poo....

You know, I think they should come up with a rating system for carbon fibre add-ons based on poo savings. At least then you could "weigh up" whether to spend the money on CF or nip off to the loo instead. :D

Re: Carbon pron

The carbon thing has got to be less it more though IMO the tank in CF is awsome but if I were to have lowers/nose cone etc then I dont think I could stomach the whole lot as CF.

That tank with half and half is very very nice.

Re: Carbon pron

 sorry just reading luke and sarah's posts...
Yeah love the tank, wouldn't want a whole CF bike though.

Re: Carbon pron

One of the nice things about having a tank cover is that it is relatively cheap to get a cover without having to make the entire thing petrol tight etc.

I like the air-tubes and cover on our NC35 but they are purely cosmetic[1].

It is mainly water though, once dried out and set, it is barely heavy enough to use as a paper weight. :smt107

You need a good handful first. For the full wet look effect though, a good coat of lacquer should be applied too. :salut:

Surely it's a similar weight to all the food you eat? :???:

Apart from the mass that is converted into energy

Mass can't be converted into energy unless his dog functions on some sort of high energy atomic annihilation reaction? E = mc^2 and all that

What about ATP into ADP? Burning of sugar as fuel to release energy...

Also another type of Carbon Joy :drink:

We don't feed him sugar. He suffers enough from ADD as it is.

Normal reaction, mass is conserved

So where does the energy come from? Is it just a miracle?

Forming of bonds between molecules as I understand it. Past that I've no idea, talk to a physicist!
