Scottoiler. What do I need?

... newish to the .org and have encounterd lots of people talking about Scottoiler. Now I ride about 50miles every day and plan to all through winter. Im also touring europe hopefully for a few months next summer. From what I gather its an essential tool. I just dont know much about it - apart from it lubes your chain!

What do I need to buy to get this thing strapped on to the bike and working? An idiots guide please!!

Has anyone got the stuff for sale?

Have stumbled across this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SCOTTOILER-V-S...d=p3286.c0.m14

Is this everything I need?

word of advice, mount in an easy place to get at. I have just fixed mine to the pillion pegs because i was getting so many problems with mine. Could of been the installer but i just didn't like it.

Good while tool for 50 mile a day treks but need to keep on top of cleaning pipework and checking it's working correctly.

Actually for a pointy you don't need the T-piece.

Have they changed the kit?
I don't recall needing anything different when I fitted mine but that was a long time ago.

Re: Scottoiler. What do I need...

its a bit fidley........ depending on how fussy you are on hiding every thing

should do it in less than an 1 hour

Re: Scottoiler. What do I need...

£70 is OK but not a blinding price, you may be able to get one for less. Dunno if HG still have a sale on, but 20% off RRP would be cheaper than that.

As far as fitting goes it is straight forward and there is a good fitting guide on the Scottoiler website.

See if george white do them, in last weeks MCN they had an offer, spend £25 or more and get a free goody bag of kit worth £75.

Scotty, well worth it 45,000 mls and counting on me viffer out of one gold O ring chain, don't for get to keep the chain clean.

Re: Scottoiler. What do I need?

I'm very impressed with my scottoiler - flow rate is easy to set up - nicely oiled chain - and I can honestly say no oil on my rear wheel!!

Ok, so I've got oil trickling down mt rear arm, where the chain guard is collecting a little - bit its all good!!

As winters looming, and people are looking for them, it may well be worth you taking it out of said bucket, and popping it in the items for sale. :)

Re: Scottoiler. What do I need?

Opinions of whether to use the standard injector or is the optional twin injector the much preffered option? about to fit a standard one to the new bike.

Nobbylad 30-09-09 10:58 AM

Re: Scottoiler. What do I need?

I believe the twin injector isn't required (and some have said it's worse than the single I think).

I use the standard injector and have never had any probs.

Thanks for that, looks as though that's another £26 saved out of my pension. Plus what I guess is less heavy cleaning

But just because you fitted it/adjusted it wrong doesn't make it a bad product.

Mines been on since about 15k, had a new chain on at 18k. Currently on 41k on the same chain. Never bought any oil, I just use anything I have kicking about, chainsaw oil, old engine oil, cheap new engine oil, whatever.

I did actually clean the chain once too.

Undoubtedly you may look at my back wheel and say "a scottoiler throws crap everywhere", but I bet a spray-can lubed bike would be just as bad if you'd not cleaned it in 31k miles.
