Engine oil... me off.

There was what looked like a oil spill from a bus on Brixton Hill Road this morning, but I didn't see it as I was watching the traffic in front of me stop and went to move lanes. Touched the brake and threw the bike down the road for a full 180 turn...
Another biker and 5 cyclist did the same while I was there waiting on the police and fire brigade to come and sort it all. Spent most of the time there waving other bikers and cyclist over to avoid the oil and saw some guy narrowly avoid hitting a bus when his brakes failed to stop him.
Bike still runs as it got me to work once the police turned up, though I've got a shoulder and leg that are stiffening up.

sods, I take it you would be the first to report the spill, so no liability.

Yep the police and fire brigade where there before I left, plus I made sure before they got there that people where moving out of the lane.

I think this bike might be a little cursed.

Aw mate, how unlucky is that. I nearly came off on a huge deisel spill in Kinds Langley the other day, if it wasn't for the old fella walking in the road (as old fellas who live in the country tend to do for no good reason at all) and me giving him a wide berth i'd have been down.

If you need a hand with anything..other than rubbing ointment in, then give me a shout wont you.

So what happens to the damage on the bike? Is it covered no questions asked by the insurance or does it have to come out of your pocket?

Either way glad to hear its nothing serious.

Grinch 21-10-09 12:42 PM

Re: Engine oil... me off.

I'm finding out if there is anyone I can claim off, though I suspect its just down to me.

Awh Zig come and rub some ointment in please.... ;-)

That's it mate, I think you've beaten me now... ;-)

On a serious note, glad you're OKish and back on the bike..

It's scary to see how much diesel/oil is dumped on London roads every day once it's wet and the patches become visible...

Grinch 21-10-09 02:46 PM

Re: Engine oil... me off.

I'm surprise that I didn't see it as there was rather alot, but my mind was busy with traffic and other things.

Glad you are ok and sorry to hear about this, nasty things these oil spills.

The KFC in Riverside, Northampton was somehow pumping oil onto the road, I know an SV went down on it, not sure if it was anyone on this site (wrong section here anyway) but another officer got sent to the job so I never found out who it was...at least they can sue KFC, who has to pay for your damages in a case like this Grinchy?

Ahh, that's why the roundabout is always slippy, I used to take my civic round there of a wet evening, and SLIIIIIDE :smt111

Re: Engine oil... me off.

Yup! Many a blue light run on that road and going around the roundabout sideways, thank god for the skidpan training!

did you go down like you did after drinking that amoretto (sp) from the litre bottle at the AR my friend

Grinch 22-10-09 02:03 PM

Re: Engine oil... me off.

Yes I went down and was sliding on my bum thinking what the hell, wasn't I on a motorbike. Not sure who is responsible for the oil, probably the bus company.

I'm afraid that while Dan's crashes are many and varied, they do not make your track record any better:D

Cheers Jambo, I managed to ride the bike back to Portsmouth so it does run, most of it is just bent and scratched.
As Jambo said mine have been very varied... let me see, bloke pulls u-turn in front of me, I flip bike and get crushed. Get caught better a turning lorry and get knocked off. Kid runs out as crossing when my lights are green and I go down on a wet, greasy road, and now a oil slick.

I'm a touch un-lucky at the moment.

Glad you OK anyway Dan, we came across a fair amount of "Rainbow roads" yesterday ourselves, always tricky.

Cheers Mark.
