Bloody Weather - Wet Neck!

Got caught in another delightful downpour this morning and stayed pretty much dry, with the exception of my neck!

Fortunately I had a spare shirt here so didn't have to suffer with a wet collar all day, but what can I do to stop this?

Are there any products about?

I have a car for this!

I dunno, it is a good question though. I have a neck tube that seems to do the trick when I get caught in a downpour. Can't remember the brand.

Get a bike where the riding position isnt as near to doing a handstand as your current one?

I saw a product in HG the other day, kinda like the top part of a high neck fleece jacket. Just zips around your neck n tops of shoulders. Would have thought that would keep you dry?!

Isn't that a bit heavy to wear round your neck tho? Let alone a bit fiddly to do your zip up around it.

Oh wait, i think i get it now ;)

On a more serious note, I have three different types of neck tube things, the thin stretchy one is great for summer and keeping off a chill, and so light you forget it's there, the next has a waterproof and windstopper membrane, and the last is a thick fleece one which is the warmest, I have two of each as putting on a damp one isn't the nicest thing to be doing.

Cheers Mark.

I've got one I wear most of the year ..

http://www.getgeared.co.uk/HELD_9053...ategory=403570

..... keeps the drafts (sp?) out !!!

I've also got a windstopper balaclava for when it gets really cold ......... lovely ........... but its a bit narrow to give full sideways vision .....

I used to use a scarf ......... but you'd always find gaps ........ and it got really wet !!!

Might be good for running too!

A mate of mine, who is an ex dispatcher uses (and don't laugh) a piece of old inner tube!
It's quite a big one and it stretches slightly so it's a snug fit around the bottom of his helmet but not so much that it squeezes around his neck. The bottom bit sits over and outside his collar so the water just runs down and outside his jacket. It's thick and heavy enough not to get blown around, but even he admits it's not that fashionable!

That's alright the bike fashion police ride sports bikes and they will have put them away at the end of the "session", so won't be seeing any of those until next years now........;)

Someone got me one of these 'polo pancho' things for Xmas last year for the bike and it was pretty good actually! Keeps your face/neck/chest really warm in the cold.

Had an Oxford neck tube and it sucked, not long enough to stay in the jacket. Definitely reccomend the weird looking pancho thing http://www.whotzhot.info/Polo_Pancho.html

Mark - generally I would agree but I commute all year on a sports bike, I do get some stange looks on dry days from "dry day" riders in full leather with my waterproofs and hi-viz stuff on. Especially as my bike is generally quite shiny.

I've been on several "swims" on the superduke of late, there are always exceptions...;)

Haha I just realised that joke works on more than one level!

I bought a Polar Buff this year and I love it! Nice fleecy bit to keep my neck warm & stop the cold air going down my jacket to my chest, and the neck tube at the top comes up far enough to us as a face mask under my lid too. It's kept me nice & toasty on the way to & from work lately. :D
