Manx Matts birthday bimble.

6th December, basically Manx matt's over for the NEC show that weekend and on the sunday (his birthday) me and him were planning on heading off from mine, through hudds, over the tops into glossop and taking snake pass to a load of other roads I dont know ending up in little longstone to missleedsmatts brother (gregs) pub. (the white lion) for some superior food. Then back again, I thought maybe some of the sheffield lot might fancy hooking up for some snap etc if not for the ride.

Just ball parking at the moment but I guess Greg would need to know if Im turing up with half a dozen bikers.

Aye, intend to ride Sunday the 6th DECEMBER (cheers punyx)
Its not a big ride and I recon we'll be aiming to have lunch around 1ish I'll have a play with google maps or what ever it is to get a route up. I'll be putting up the route I usually take to his pub (most direct) as I dont know the area too well having only been myself a couple of times. So if anyone who is coming fancies leading a section then thats cool it'll be a totally informal ride. I'll be the slowest out there and I'll prob be stopping at every junction anyway to check the map lol so no one will get left behind.
Anyone who just wants to meet at the pub let i'll be posting up details of its location but can you please pm me so that I can give Greg a heads up of numbers.

Cheers for making that post matt, would be good day on my birthday to have a nice run out with some of the boys/girls.

Orose, Dave please try get down (pmapp get back to your bycicling). ;) :D

As for loosing people just use a loose junction marking system without the TEC that'd be easiest.

Very much worth a mention but if its raining, I am not going. If its wet then I'll go but I'll be riding very very very very very slowly snake pass has earnt its reputation I dont need to test it 3weeks before crimbo.

Re: Manx Matts birthday bimble.

manx reminded me :)
this is the route I would normally take from mine to the pub so this is the one we'll be taking unless someone has anyother suggestions.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...889d1ce4127259

I'd expect to be leaving mine at around half 10 eleven.

Alternative Dave is you ride up the M1 to mine and join us, we set off a little bit later then you can go home where we'd turn left to return over snake pass.

I thought the only reputation it had was for toasting stuff, which seems to be a popular pursuit at christmas ;)

Re: Manx Matts birthday bimble.

I wouldn't want to push it on there anyway these days - the road is fairly heavily policed, so you're better off behaving anyway. What I'd say is that you are running the risk of inclement weather spoiling the route - both the snake pass and holme moss (Holmfirth to Woodhead pass) have the potential to be closed in wintery conditions, and they seem to be the first to close down this way.

Might I also suggest a slight detour when you get to calver? http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...c39775f3ebee09 adds a little bit on, but also directs you through 13 bends before heading back into the village from the south.

Woodhead was shut today and to elaborate on oroses' 'heavily policed' that usually translates to an unmarked builders van speed trap + whatever else they fancy laying on.:clown:s

Re: Manx Matts birthday bimble.

First frost this morning, over the tops from Holme moss would be a no go in the ice.

13 bends!
I found that the first time I went to his pub by car, we got a little lost and I saw the sign 13 bends quite fun. Nowt like the burnham bends lol but thats a different world still my favorite day of riding was that day .

Got to say I'm more partial to the 13 bends but then again im biased. All this ice is worrying hope its ok ont the 6th.

Re: Manx Matts birthday bimble.

Cant see the 6th on the 5 day forcast yet but Saturday looks ok at 7degrees 3 degrees at night. If we're coming then we'll be doing the snake either way cos its just the most direct route. But after that we'll do Ollys route cos I liked that stretch in the car.

Re: Manx Matts birthday bimble.

If I do it, I'll probably look to meet you in huddersfield. Over towards Mottram might be a possible option as an alternative to holme moss, although both are probably equally likely to be closed in poor weather.

There are also a number of options to avoid snake pass in that event too.

Dave: not sure when the matts will be up and moving, as they're at the NEC at the moment, but I think its provisionally a 11am departure from their end. If so, we can meet at tankserley and roll in the back way.
