ACF50 time
Looks with the frosts forcasted this weekend will need to cover the bike in ACF50 again before salting crews go crazy.
Which means I've got to clean bike first Argghhh hate cleaning bikes Cheers Steveg |
Re: ACF50 time
Ah, ACF50
never used it, ridden through a few winters now and my bike dosn't seem any worse for it really But then I rinse my bike down alot so I guess that helps, labour intensive th0ough |
Re: ACF50 time
acf50 all year round ftw!, wash the bike twice a year then :D :D :D
|
Re: ACF50 time
Have never used it either and just rinse bike off with cold water then give it a quick wipe down. 4 year old bike that looks pretty good :)
Maybe if i rode it everyday to work i would use it but i only take it twice a week and use at weekends too. |
Re: ACF50 time
I have just spent a day cleaning and covering my CG in ACF-50 and I'm so glad I got it done and out of the way ready for winter!

It should be applied thinly, and care should be taken to regularly re-coat areas that will be subject to it being rubbed off. Around wheel areas, forks and the like, I spray in to a container then apply with a paintbrush. Some mix oil and petrol and spray on, so that once the petrol evaporates, it leaves an oil protective residue behind, but this doesn't have corrosion inhibitors. |

I don't believe that ACF could hold off a whole winters worth of salt and carp .....and if it can .... then it shouldn't wash straight off from the occasional clean anyway .... I've got the spray ... and will appy a little after every clean in the winter ..... |
Re: ACF50 time
Yes Steve, Yesterday I took my Aprilia out of the Garage, washed it and cleaned all the crap off, dried it off as much as I could and then left it to dry off some more, then sprayed on some Scotoiller stuff, Simmelar to the ACF50, (but not as good so Dan recons)
http://www.scottoiler.com/pc/catalog...878_detail.jpg Bike is now back in the garage on the centre stand and the front wheel off the ground. Also it's now SORN, might be out again in March but we'll see. it's the first time I've put my bike to bed for a long time.... sad sad day. boohoo. |

How thickly do you apply it Steveg? I've read only microns thin, but I tend to go somewhere in the middle - not too thick that it drips, but not so thin that you can't tell it's there. |

Riche ....... I'd say your bike is pretty safe there ....... cleaned, protected and wrapped up in a nice warm garage for the winter..... just don't tell my bike - they'll all be wanting it !! |

I give bike a clean , then give it a quick run to warm it up , let it cool a little then apply to slightly warm bike as easier to go on . The acf is shaken well then stood in some warm water and applied by brush after spraying into ACF lid Just keep away from brakes / tyres A can of ACF-50 normally lasts me 3 years Cheers Steveg |

Re: ACF50 time
I did mine last winter on a brand new bike and it seemed to work well. I rode quite a bit on dry roads in January after the cold snap and you could see the salt had turned to a fine powder on the roads, but the ACF-50 seemed to stop this eating into the bike. So coated it again a few weeks back and it's rained every weekend since.
