Must be at least -2 today, the roads were twinkling like the stars above, and even with two layers of gloves on my fingers nearly fell off.

Still, that's the December ride out of the way.

I was a good girlfriend today and went and de-iced and de-misted Dans car for him to go to work! It was a pretty thick and the village looked gorgeous all covered in white. Oddly though, I wasn't that cold stood out there for 10 mins???

Hit some black ice a few times on the commute, did a bit of a chicken dance. Why is it that there is only ever black ice on a bend when a huge truck is coming the other way? :confused:

I nearly fell on my bum about half an hour ago when I went out to de-ice the car - the driveway has been black iced!! Still only 1 degree here...BRRR!

Oh yes, colder to come I'm sure. I still have nightmares about the trip to the restaurant on my wife's birthday last year (Dec 30). The car said it was -6 when we set out and a "puckering" -10 on the way back. Of course we had to choose that out of the way scenic place with the steep hills and the single track roads most of the way...

True, but we wont get to see our roads again until early April. So until then I have to come on here listening to everybody moaning about their wet rides (maybe it's not so bad here!)

You're right, the low humidity makes it bearable, except when it's windy and then the windchill can cause frostbite within a couple of minutes.

Last Christmas Eve it was -12, and we played hockey on our local lake in short sleeves.

It's Nigel, and we thought of Vancouver, but it is even wetter than England!!
Calgary is not that bad in the winter (although as I type this it is a total white out outside). On a good day it may be -20, but the sky will be totally cloudless and wearing a toque and gloves you can stay out for hours. And then when a Chinook comes the temp. can go up 15 degrees in a matter of hours (the record is -48 C to +9 over a 24 hour period))

We're in Old Sodbury and up on the hill, so q good few hundred feet above Bristol and it makes a massive difference to temperatures. Should have seen the snow we had last year!

only moved here 3 months ago so not had snow here yet but we have been tryign to find a hill that we can destory. will have to play safe this year with stupid injury from crashing, lol.

There's a fab hill here at the top of our lane....about 250 yards from the house. If it snows, they will come...lol. It's so funny sitting and looking down from the bedroom window to see people slide about the roads in shiney new cars and get a piece of bubble wrap out of the boot to go up on the hill...lol.

This is probably the best hill this side of Bristol for sledding!

If it snows, I will be at your house within 7 hours and I WILL be sledging until it melts. Just a prior warning. Too close to the coast here so don't get snow often

and if it snows, you just sold that hill, expect a crappy saxo with duct ttape speed stripes and gnar kill in duct tape on the side to turn up with someone wearing their biking gloves and jacket for warmth and sledding all day :-)

I *think* I nearly got punted up the backside by a van yesterday on the way home. The lights abruptly changed just as our 'pack' of traffic was coming up on them. It's a 40mph limit and I know there's a red light camera there so I came to a swift but controlled stop, and I don't think the van expected that and slammed on his anchors and was preparing to swerve around me to avoid hitting me. Because he was at a funny angle behind me!

Bike is tucked away again, too many nutters not driving to the wet and cold conditions I think!

Agree with that .... Friday nights are aways the worst rides home ... people are always rushing, and in too good a mood to care about actually driving ..... it seems people think on a Friday evening 'Yeah, its the weekend, and tonight nothing could possibly go wrong' :D

Anyway, last night was probably the worst ride home I've had in ages ... people not looking, not driving to the conditions, just pulling out willy nilly, and bloody taxi drivers sitting an inch off my **** racing to the next fare :smt011

Its not like me to moan .... so rant over :D
