Cheers Mark.

If you are at Berties in Elland on Saturday I suppose I could buy you a pint....

That's because northern birds drink pints.

Can't see why not - unless there's a world shattering catastrophe between now and then of course.

Double yellows count on a Bank Holiday?

Littlepeahead 30-12-09 10:57 AM

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

Is it going to snow? If not I might even be persuaded to move off the couch. I have spent most of the holiday under a snuggly blanket with a glass of Baileys watching the cricket. I even got up at 7am this morning to watch it - though I don't start on the Baileys that early of course. :smt101

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

I was quite keen.
But the bike is washed now, the wash water turned to ice hours ago & it's only going to get colder, so I'd prefer not to get salt all over it again. :( so I'm out.

Well that was a giggle, and you weren't first, me and Jo had been manfuly hiding in the cafe across the road holding the nice hot tea, and trying to warm up ;). But it did take us a few minutes to get over to you in fairness :)

Lovely to see the few that we could before the cold got the best of us and we ran for the warmth of the Underground:rolleyes:

Oh....oh...can I play.......I was there 2002 mid Jan if I remember right......:)

caught a cople of patches of ice on the way home, but apart from an increase in revs no real drama, the old toes were feeling it a bit by the time I got in though.

Cheers Mark

Sorry I didn't make it. Mr LPH was too hungover to move from the sofa so we stayed in and ate pizza.

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

Well as said a bit cold, but dry enough, after an hours ride around; Frith St saw my arrival, Soho is a rather unique challenge when it comes to flashless photography; it's fast/slow/bright & dim all at the same time a fine balance between exposure and blur when doing handheld (not always achieved as you'll see), makes for "interesting" results, but I do enjoy it, so OK not the best but it kind of suits the occasion; anyway here's a few from the night.

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3512297_n.jpg
http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4028862_n.jpg

I love this B&W effect, OK some of the detail and shading is lost, but adds some real drama to a shot I think.

and this sort of gives it that cold look, which it very much was....

I'm intrigued. Why do you want to go flashless? because you want to be too far away from your subject?

rictus01 02-01-10 06:30 PM

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

No not really, in fact I had my new smart flash in the bag, flash photography has a time and place, but gives predictable results which can look rather flat and stark, not to mention how intrusive it can be.

I do prefer the judgement call of setting the camera for my interpretation, as said can be a bit more hit and miss, but you can also achieve much better pictures.

cool pics mark, notice the ones i took were all blured *coughs* sorry !!!!!

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

No worries hun, the camera wasn't setup for any easy shots, next time I'll let you have a go with the big flash, that makes it much easier to get good results.

Cheers Mark.

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

I'm with mark on the flashless pics front. I find the flash when taking pics of peeps makes them look flat and bland and mutes out or exagerates their features. I much prefer taking pics without flash or at the very least covering most of the flash with my finger, a technique which is very hit and miss tho tbh.

I'll be there next week loonypot :)

I was greeted by this when I got home.

It's not my house, but it is just a few yards down the road from us. It was amazing just how many people and how much equipment was involved.

Re: Soho New Years day night ...... 1st Jan 2010

I'm sure all the water pumped all over the road which then froze made riding up there a little tricky. I got the bike out of the garage yesterday, then realised just how slippery my road was so put it away again and took the car. I know I am a complete wimp, but it would be just my luck to slip over in my ungritted cul-de-sac and break a leg just before Thailand.
