Xbox repairs

I've seen quite a few peeps posting their Xbox 360 Gamertags on here, (salutes to fellow gamers) so I thought I'd ask;
My 'Box is broken, and the only reasonable place I can find to get it repaired is in London, for £50.

Does anyone know of anywhere/anyone better? Maybe some awesome dude on here who knows his electronics

And once it's fixed, I'll be up for annihilating anybody on Halo or Guitar Hero, Ohh Rah!

Can't you just send it back to microsoft let them fix it? they fixed mine for free when it got 3 red light

Re: Xbox repairs

yes check your mfr they have 3 years guarantee on rrod.

Re: Xbox repairs

I checked ages ago. 1- Mine is not RROD it's just 1 light, which is not covered, and my warranty has expired anyway. They want about £80 in total to fix it. I found somewhere to do it for £50, but my error message is "E65" which means that the disc drive might be bust, OR, its just jammed, and I don't want to pay £50 for someone to poke the disc tray out!

Hmmmmmmm yeeesss (strokes cat on lap) .........

I have contemplated this.. I could sell my current for spares, and get a new one for about £100 with a new controller, sell the bundle games because 90% of the time they're absolute poo, and It's probably end up about £20 over repairing.. is this the Arcade or Pro console?

zsv650 27-12-09 11:38 PM

Re: Xbox repairs

it'll be the arcade i'd of thought i saw the ad on tv so keep your hard drive.

allantheboss 27-12-09 11:51 PM

Re: Xbox repairs

Isn't hard drive the only difference? And once before I put my hard drive in someone else's box, and none of the extra downloads I paid for (like Halo maps/Guitar Hero songs) appeared on it; only on my Xbox... so I'd me more keen to get mine fixed in that sense

Depending on the drive its pretty easy to get the key off the old drive and inject it into a fiirmware for flashing to a new drive, you just need the right sata controller. If the old drive is so dead you cant get the key off then your stuck.

If its just the dsk drive take thething appart yourself. Im sure u could find a new drive on ebay (watch out there are 3 differnt types i think). I've fixed quite a few now.

Wrap your box in a couple of towels, overheating is meant to induce the rods, the get it sorted for free, so I've been told.

I'm 90% sure that's just with the 3 red rings, and I've also been terribly advised against it by some keen Xbox-ers!

Don't do this, it works but there are other side affects.

I've fixed mine as it was as dead as a door-knob.

Do a little re-search on-line and there is loads of stuff.

First how old is your console, there should be a serial number with a manufacture date on it. If you take the serial number to the xbox site you can see if its still covered by the ROLD 3 year warranty.
They will then take you xbox away for 2 weeks and renew the thermal paste and replace the GPU heat sink.

If its out side of warranty then this is something you can do yourself, along with a few other tricks I know, but before I go into that check and see. If this fails then I can tell you how to get it repair for less then a tenner.

I've already been through the MS site. It's not covered and they want many bills for little work!

I know I could do it myself as well, but time is money, so I thought it's be worth checking to see if anyone happens to be good at fixing/live within reasonable distance whom can make quick work of it.

The 3 RROD is common, and there's lots of info about it, but it's sadly not the case with 1 RROD and E65 error message :(
