Foxes - removal

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of foxes from your garden?

I keep seeing foxes in my garden - cute ones as opposed to the mangy old ones that you normally see by railway sidings. All they do is come into my garden to use it as their lavatory.

I've tried putting *****ly branches down near to where they do their business but it hasn't helped. I've tried to block off all access points to my garden by putting rocks/plant pots in the way but they dig around that problem! I'm even leaving my outside light on on "intruder" mode, but they are still persisting.

What do you use to get rid of the red-menace?

Could it be that you don't have any pets (do you?) and they don't regard the territory as belonging to anyone else. Trying peeing where they go and see if that makes a difference......

Go to London Zoo and ask for some Loin or Tiger urine.
or is this an urban myth?

You can get repellant from B&Q. It's in the gardening section.

Don't make a difference if you have pets or not. My mums old kitty Midget used to stand nose to nose with foxes at the top of the garden, and they still came back. One scary pussy cat that one, but then she was pretty feral!
Although you aren't supposed to at all, my parents stopped them raiding the bins by putting a few scraps out at the top of the drive(opposite end of the garden to the bins). It actually worked and they got to do a bit of Nature watch at the same time. Many generations of foxes have been treat like it at my parents house, and many bins left unharmed!

Colchester Zoo sell tubs of Zoo Poo. It is well known for keeping unwanted animals out of your garden - it really does work.

Mind you, it can keep you out of the garden for a while!

That is not as barmy as it sounds.

My dad breeds pheasants and this year had a problem with foxes trying to kill the poults, so as RH suggested above, he pee'd into a bottle and then poured it around the fence line to put the foxes off. And it worked.

How long's the garden? Air rifle if it's fairly short, crossbow if it's a bit bigger.

Foxes are vermin, they kill for the sake of it. Ask anybody who has been unfortunate enough to get them in their hen runs or any shoot that has got them amongst their poults just before the season starts and loose a considerable income.

Only thing to do with them is kill them as soon as you see them.

Re: Foxes - removal

Oh but they're so cute and fluffy and that article in the guardian said them killing everything is just a nasty fascist myth!

Re: Foxes - removal

According to the consensus in the Death Penalty Poll/ Thread, unless they are guilty of a serious crime, e.g. peadaphelia, rape or murder they should be given conselling. Maybe a safari to Africa.

In reality they are just misunderstood. Perhaps bonding sessions, or a Team/raft building exercise. Maybe some Lottery Funding for them to start an awareness course etc. After all, its all about multiculturalism and diversity.

In later years you don't to be viewed by your local community as the reason they were moved on from their traditional homing grounds, e.g. the white settlers in Austrailia.

This is your chance to be a shinning light in your community. To be that voice of reason and commonsense which says, ah bo££ox to this lets go down the pub!

Or we could do it the modern way and all come round on our trusty steeds and draw nice donuts and things all over your lawn for you in a vague attempt at pretending to chase foxes.

I understand that won't work because animals like foxes won't have had any experience of (say) tigers so won't be aware of the fact that they should be scared of them.

You could dress up in a really big fox suit then chase them out of the garden while barking at them. They'll tell all the other foxes in the neighbourhood to avoid your house too.

Never thought of putting it in a bottle, I keep peeing around the boundary, I wondered why the neighbours look at me funny!

Client of ours tried Lions Roar to get rid of deer in the forestry & it worked!
Or try this :
Lion's Roar - powdered Lion faeces. Apparently is really rather good. ( not my words ! )

Nope, no pets (due to the unfortunate Artoo-Catnapping incident). I peed into a bottle first thing, then spread it all over the holes the foxes have dug under the fence. Thanks for the advice.

Cheers for the info - I'll see if Red Herring's advice works first!

No!!!! I live in London, apart from the mangy, old pidgeons that we get in Trafalgar Sq we don't do wildlife, if I wanted wildlife I'd live in Emmerdale Farm!

If Red Herring's advice and BluePete's advice fail then I'll keep this in mind!
