fuel consumption
I bought my K5 SV650 last May and of course am very happy with it but,I get a very poor tank range due to it's smallish capacity. The avg mpg is the low 40's steady driving,I expected 50mpg with steady driving.Does the K5 have an o2 sensor?Do they go faulty unseen by the diagnostics?

Re: fuel consumption
How many miles are you getting before the fuel light starts flashing? You should easily get 120, I;ve seen as much as 150. When the light starts flashing, thats 13 litres of fuel consumed (from a full tank). I dont think the K5 SV has an O2 sensor; the FI system didnt become a closed loop system until the k7 model I think? The latest models (i think from K7 onwards, but definatly K8 onwards) have an extra sensor (lambda?) in the exhaust, found down near the rear brake footpeg

Re: fuel consumption
Air filter clean? Throttle bodies in sync? TPS adjusted? Tyre pressures OK? Chain healthy?
Lots of reasons it could be drinking a bit more. Including a change in riding habits and doing lots of short trips. |
Re: fuel consumption
Thanks for the replies, yes,a new air filter and tyres spot on along with the TPS done.So this v twin seems a little thirsty engine I suppose Suzuki doesn't want any blowing up due to lean running!Plugs too I re-gapped,obviously then, this is the fuel consumption but if one elects to ride it slowly, well then that's a different story!

Re: fuel consumption
In the winter i find my fuel consumption reduces; not sure why really. What sort of riding do you do? COmmuting in town is not good for economy

As for range my K4 can do anything up to 170 miles on a motorway before the fuel light rears its ugly head. |
Re: fuel consumption
i normally get anything from 160 down to 130 ish normally 2 up, and i dont hang about:thumleft:
|
Re: fuel consumption
i normally see 120-130 out of a tank riding short-ish distances (12 runs of around 10 miles) before the light which is generally off 12 litres so it works out at 45 mpg.
On a rideout i've filled up 7 litres off 90 miles so that's more like 55-60 mpg. |

curvies are the daddies |
Re: fuel consumption
in the summer i only get 100 miles from a tank, winter im too busy keeping warm to look at how many miles i do between fuel stops
|
Re: fuel consumption
I tend to top up in fivers as I don't go far and wide, but generally get about 60-70 miles running it as close to i think empty.
|
Re: fuel consumption
I usually top up tenners n that gets me anything between 100 - 135 miles. n then the most ive had from a tank is 180.
|
Re: fuel consumption
Worst I've had is 12.5l in 75 miles or so.

Re: fuel consumption
I never got more than 120 out of a tank on the K5 pointy.
Not hanging about but it was while commuting on the motorway so was a steady pace. The daytona makes the sv look almost frugal in comparison though. lol |
Re: fuel consumption
Judging by the many replies,it seems that no fault exists on my K5!Thanks everybody.
