Best you set for the repeat at 09h00 as well...

You know what eurosport are like...the race'll get red-flagged and they'll have to stop because the world hokie-pokie championship needs to start:confused:

I'm backing Haslam for the crown, although there will be stiff competition this year. So many good riders!

it would seem the R1 is a difficult bike to ride; it just so happens that Spies and Camier are good enough riders to hide that. James Ellison also had troubles with the yamaha.

For all the praise the bike received when it was launched, both as a road bike and as a race bike, it seems that now the hype has died down the R1 is not actually as geat a bike as the media would have had us once beleive.

I think it will be a Ducati benefit this year, hopefully Shakey can win it, if not i would like to see any of the Brits win but i reckon Haga will finally take the title this year

I'd say second in the BSB for Ellison suggests it wasn't really all that difficult compared with the other bikes on the grid, even if he was always a long way of Camier's ultimate pace. It can't be that bad if Ellison was struggling to make it work to its potential and was still able to score more points than everyone bar his team mate. Although it could be a sign of a generally weak field since Camier was lightyears ahead most of the time, I think a fully fit Guintolli would have run Camier closer than any of the others managed to.

Tom Sykes really did struggle, though. I think he's probably a better rider than his season of results showed.

I agree, it seems the bike was over-hyped. Now there seems to be a consensus that the only thing the road bike has going for it over the others is the firing order, and that it isn't really all that necessary anyway.

dare say crutchlow n toes will have it sorted before race day ...mean time lets hope Haslam can stop the Dukes ....its really quite open this year altho Haga is bound to be in the mix - he always is :)

Out on a limb here but I reckon Haga is past his peak and wont ever win it.Thats not to say he's no good any more, just that he has had so many knock backs over the years he wont rebound again. He even won it ten years ago only to have points and the title taken away for a bit of puff. He's getting on a bit too.

Re: WSB Philip Island Australia this sunday :)

I know what you mean BB and I been a Haga fan since he joined WSB, but, I think he has atleast 2 more good years. He was shown up a tad by Spies' 50% win record last year, but, as Crutchlow and Toseland are showing, Spies is something else.

I feel Haga is still #1 contender, but, he is closely chased by Rea, Byrne and Haslam.

Bloody dieting drugs that robbed Nori-chan, damn you!

Byrne's a bit of an outside shot on the Althea, Haslam, and perhaps more so Guintolli, have a good shot on the Suzuki if Neukirchner was anything to go by, there are lots of others, though.

Byrne will do well to be team mate Checa in the points tally, Biaggi will always be up there even if Camier struggles. Neukirchner's now on a Hannspree Honda, and don't forget Fabrizio. Then there's the Yamahas and the BMWs.

Well, checa is continuing his run of testing form in philip island. Haslam was thrid, but hints thre is more to come when he uses a soft tyre.

I'm not a big fan of shakey....

Spoiler

so look away

Haslam on pole :D:D:D

everyone looks so fast; im expecting more from toseland, and cal crutchlow was impressive during qualifying!

1am for the first race, 4:30 am for race 2

I want my bloody bike back so I can go out and play WSBK (albeit very slowly and carefully but with all the same sorts of ducati-esque sounds....i in no way endorse using the road as a race track)

That works if you scroll from the top down, but not if your browser takes you straight to the most recent post and from there you scroll up. :smt096

I'm a little annoyed, mainly because I was absent minded enough to look at this thread in the first place, mind :)

I think spoiler tags should be required, as a reminder to all who enter, in any thread where we can talk about results, otherwise don't.

Alpinestarhero 27-02-10 07:52 PM

Re: WSB Philip Island Australia this sunday :)

normaly the thread title says "may contain spoilers"

in any case, it is the most recent thread about the first round, so may well contain spoilers. I put the "spoliers" thing in bold so that might attract attention first

and just to wind everyone up who dosnt record the races and watch them at 7am, I'll post up the results of those in font size 7 in bold and underline and italic before the repeats

I know, normally a thread like this would have a spoiler tag. You attempted, kindly, to protect your post..........but you failed :)

Maybe you could put the big bold spoiler words below your next post aswell, next time, so innocent readers with brains in autopilot that scroll up from the bottom of the page, will not accidentally circumvent the protection afforded by the large bold words above it :)

That which is seen, cannot be unseen!

Be a bit easier to just not look in the thread until you've watched it...

Bit like turning on MOTD before you've watched the games.

At risk of turning a mole-hill into a mountain..............duhhhhh!

No kidding, I could post the result in a thread title and tell you you shouldn't be looking at the racing section :) . But, spoiler tags are the widely accepted and required addition to the title of any thread which may give something away, sporting or otherwise.

You don't want to go to a film thread with a title: "New Film out tomorrow" and then be told that Bruce Willis is actually a ghost all along. :)

It's easy to post things inconspicuously too > see? <. (Highlight it to read it.)

Not a big deal. Of course. It's just simple to do it right, so why not, even if it's just to save one hapless chump who forgot what he was looking at till it was too late.

It would appear that the reason for the chatter was because of a light-weight seat unit developed for the 2010 bike. The problem was sorted once they had flown the 2009 seat unit out to Oz from Italy.

Still, it looks like Cal has the edge on James at the moment but I think race day will tell.

I'm also a bit disappointed that Shakey didn't qualify well but having seen the pictures of his highside on friday, I can understand that he may be a bit sore. Having said that though, he has some good company on the fourth row with him ;)

Haga finished 6th in that race, so, he is getting better! ha ha

I think the Suzuki's were very good, Haslam and Guintoli showed that.

But, Checa made quite a good point on how strong the Ducati can be if you look after your rear tyre.

I hope the next race was as good as these two, shame we got to wait 4 weeks for them though!

TazDaz 28-02-10 12:46 PM

Re: WSB Philip Island Australia this sunday :)

I'm impressed with both the Suzuki riders. I think Haslam might need to up his game in the last few laps, because in both races everyone else seemed to speed up towards the end and he didn't seem to have a response.

Very impressed with Rea. He managed to get back up to 6th in the 2nd race after a little tour of the gravel traps. If he can stop making these mistakes, I'm sure he has the goods to be champion.

BTW...if you haven't watched them yet, aw well. If the races have been run and you haven't watched and don't want to spoil it for yourself, just don't come in this thread. Simples.

camier was really good actually, I was quite impressed. He's still young and the mistakes he made are those of a rookie, but to be fair to him, many of the experianced riders have made similar mistakes. I can recal a few times loris capirossi has run on at the honda hairpin, and he's a ruddy dinosaur!

I was expecting better things from corser on the BMW; they said last season the bike was really good, but they lacked data to get it set up well and do well. But we shall see how things go on. I notice Xaus lobbed himself into a gravel trap....old habits die hard

Careless...I mean, Carlos Chucker...Checa...(sorry) was another impressive paticipant; however, going on his testing form, I thought he might have been on the podium both times. An excellent race 2 win though! Fabrizio was scary threatening, but Haslam was a class act and despite clearly not being as fast, he was very defensive. I suspect tyre demise may have cost him race 2, and almost cost him race one. He was pushing hard both times from the off...philip island is demanding though, very fast - look at the smoke pouring off the rear tyre of (my favorite) Jakob Smrz!

Shame the two yamaha's crashed out of race one, and didnt have a strong showing in race 2. I am hopefull of greater things to come from crutchlow and toseland, but I wonder how toselands highside in race one will play on his mind; there is precedence for Toseland to become slightly nervous after those sorts of crashes (ducati traction control caused him to have a massive highside years back, and then before last season a couple of big crashes in pre-season testing left him unconfident). Crutchlow can undoubtedly put together stonking fast laps, but he needs to find away to put alot of them together, one right after the other.

An excellent season is about to unfold before us...

role on round 2, Portiamo, 28th March!!!

Re: WSB Philip Island Australia this sunday :)

If Fabrizio was behind me, I'd be worried.

Excellent showing by the majority of the brits today. Bit disappointed with Crutchlow as I thought he would have fared slightly higher up the field. Same with the likes of Tom Sykes, particularly 2nd race.

Top result for Haslam though, and also enjoyed seeing Guinters up there. I think the competition this year will make for fantastic racing and looks like to be the competition to watch.

I'll still be looking forward to a good domestic competition, even if I dont think Moto GP will be quite the same.
