Isson Blu-Ray now too. The beach scene would be awesome in HD I reckon.

I do like the film, but feel it's spoiled by the modern day bit at the start and the end- it's just badly executed.

a top ten film.

love the quick fixes in the film:

gum + mirror + bayonet = safely look around corner.

socks + tnt + tar + brave solider = immobilised german tank

Brilliant film. I still vividly remember watching it for the first time. BUT - they should have ditched the ending.

I think it would have been much more powerful if none of the Americans - including (especially?) Ryan - had survived.

The Yanks would still have saved face by strafing all the Germans on the bridge in the same way as in the film.

Quick anecdote about the film: My parents got chatting with a chap who was an extra on the beach landing scene. Apparently, when the landing craft came in, the charges starting going off and Tom Hanks started making his way up the beach, someone jumped up and shouted "Run Forrest, Run" and Tom went up the beach in full Forrest style. Scene needed resetting etc had to wait 24hrs for the tide and one less extra on the set :)

Enjoy!

My problem with the ending is how much it's like a 1980s cop movie with the backup turning up once the fight's over. And it does seem like that, you see a jeep pull up with a few soldiers just casually sitting on the front, not in any rush to jump off and hurry to help, bleh.

MATT DAMON!
