Is it for a lawn??? If so I bought a lawnmower which collects the grass for exactly that reason. It will pick up leaves and other rubbish on the lawn as well as just cutting the grass.

I have a reasonable quality one. Blowing them is a waste of time, sucky sucky works fine, but even with the built in shredder it fills very quick and is also it is pretty heavy.
I use it because I've got it, but would not buy one again.

+1

Heavy and not that effective, especially if the leaves are a bit wet. As you say, buy a rake and save your dosh.

Re: Leaf blower / vacuum

Hmmm, disagree a bit here.

I use a Stihl (86) petrol blower quite a lot, one of the most useful tools in the arsenal IMO. With a little practice you can round up leaves quite successfully into a manageable heap, then collect up using the hi-tech method of 2 pieces of hardboard about the size of an A4 sheet, nothing better been invented yet. Blower is brilliant for cleaning out leaves from under shrubs and clearing paths. Also does a great job of drying the bike off after washing it.

Mine also has the vac attachment, but in all honesty it's more trouble than it's worth. It doesn't lift wet leaves very successfully, and capacity is limited. OK for a few bits and pieces in the borders, but frankly the blower and then manual pick-up is more effective.

Thoroughly recommend the Stihl petrol blower, save your money on the vac attachment.

Electric garden tools are crap, tried an electric chainsaw once, might as well have chewed through it.

... oh, and if you have serious areas to clear like driveways, get a Billygoat , highly recommended, but pricey.
