I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Well...
called motorcycle direct to transfer my existing policy over to the SRAD (me and preston are doing the paperwork tomorra). Because I'm 24 and it's a group 16 bike the underwriter isn't going to transfer the policy across and I have to start a new one instead and lose the 9 months worth of my THIRD YEAR No claims discount which will put me back to 2 years and shaft me even more... Alternatively I can cancel the policy - for which there would be a charge... ex-****ing-cuse me I paid for the policy in full and now you want more to cancel it early? "So would you be interested in a quote from our sales team mr. wilson?" me: yeah cancel my 4pm and connect those mofo's So now I'm considering the possibility of letting the sv1000 policy run it's course until 3rd june even though I won't own it anymore, take out a new policy with someone else for the SRAD on a pay monthly basis (also check what the cancellation fee is with said new company) then in june, cancel the policy and get requoted with the 3 years NCB which will be alll miiiiine... BASTRADS! 1. Can anyone see any holes in my plan i.e. anything illegal or which may cause me extra grief in the long run? That's about the only question for the time being as I'm ever so slightly livid at not being able to transfer AND also having to pay extra to end the fecking policy cheeky ****ers... Advice & moral support appreciated xxx time for a glass of rose |

Same problem here mate, had to cancel the £200 policy I took outfor the SV in December and they gave me the princley refund of £18.
To be fair to them they gave me a good deal on my blade and really made an effort to keep my custom, waived some fees and chuked in free breakdown cover. |

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Can't offer much advice, but you mind me asking what's the difference between 2 and 3 years NCB is?
It was £50 for me on the Falco, so if that was the case with you, I'd take out a new policy. Yes, you'll lose the 9months, but you'll probably have to pay a cancellation charge if you decide to cancel and get re-quoted with your 3years ncb. |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
if you and preston both have riding other bikes why not both let your insurance run ride each others bike til you can take out a new policy and both preston isnt having the same problem?

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Haha. I must be a cheap date then. All they need to do is flsh some breakdown cover at me.

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Drew kept his SV policy running for 2 months while gary had it insured and had brought it! So that he could keep his no claims.

But usually policies allow you to ride other peoples bikes on Third Party Only basis. And one of the lads is... well... a high risk factor :D I'll run away now... |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
clearly I ride like a nob seeing as I've only ever had one lowside at 20mph and the rest of the time I ride like a girl...
Preston was quoted like £98 fc (with all his non-fault claims!!!) I'll have a word with him but I'm not happy about the third party only thing. Can anyone recommend any insurance companies with low or no cancellation fee's - must be pay monthly... 3 years NCB might not seem like a big deal right now but I'm one year away from being able to protect that discount - i can guarantee that I'll prolly get hit by an ice cream van or davepreston or some other comically genius road user at the point where I would have been 4 years ncb protected  |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
I dont think you can have a policy on a bike you do not have, and two policies can not run on a single vehicle at the same time.
For example, I wanted my own policy on my girlfriends car so that I could keep my NCD when I got a company car. But as she already has a policy on the vehicle you cant have another one it. For that reason the person who now has your old bike will have their own policy and you will have a duplicate one, which from my understanding is illegal. Also if its involved in an accident with the new owner, and your down as the policy holder for the vehicle... you can see why two policies cant run on one vehicle now? |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Had this years back when I changed from the gpz to the sv mid policy, the underwriter wouldn't touch the sv for some reason...
I didn't risk the leaving the old bike insured and am very happy I didn't as the person who I sold it too wrote it off in the time the policy would've still been active... god knows how much grief it'd have been. I always try to change bikes fairly close to my renewal date now just in case |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
I kind of understand where you're coming from G - they do ask that question "will you be the registerred keeper and owner of the vehicle"... starting to play with fire a bit if I want to change the policy so I'm not the reg'd owner & keeper but still insured with it.
I would have thought, however, that you could take out insurance on the vehicle even if someone else is already insured to drive it. My FC policy means I'm 3rd party on any other bike but if I had a missus who rode a bike and I wanted to be more than 3rd party on it, I'm pretty sure I'd be able to ring up an insurance company for a good shafting and take out a full policy to insure the bike more comprehensively? I can imagine it may vary from insurer to insurer though... I just need to find someone who doesn't charge a massive cancellation fee. Woooo I could really annoy the siht out of a wide range of insurers by getting insurance for 14 days and cancelling before the cooling off period :D just step stone from now until june, then struggle to get a decent quote  |

i.e. If my mum had a smash in her car, why would my own insurance policy on that vehicle be affected because she was the one who was driving it at the time? Where the hell is Ed? or BluePete or the Woozle Woozle? |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
serves u right for going from an sv1000 to an srad:thumbdown:...;)...letting insurance run on, when u are no longer the registered keeper is illegal and can cause an whole heap of problems...better to cut ur losses and take the hit in premuim now imo'...hell soon enough u will have( in theory) 26 years of insurance like me( £70 fc on owt):D

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Paul, if it was me, I would just get them to do a quote......you may be surprised?!?!?!? My Daytona was less than £200 on TPFT......may be an option? Get them to do you some quotes, then look at what the benefit of having the 2 years would be. Can't think it would be that great surely?

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
The law as I understand it is with the vehicle not the person.
You insure Vehicle 1. If your wife wants to drive Vehicle 1 then she can go on the vehicle policy as a named driver. She cant start her own stand alone policy on vehicle 1. That is the illegal part. You can insure as many vehicle as you like but you can only have one policy per vehicle. |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
that's the only thing, they can offer me a quote but they need to go to a different underwriter = ncb lost. If they can do me fully comp with euro & uk breakdown, legal, helmet and leather cover all thrown in for around £300 then I'll rip their hands off but as it stands £314 is the best fc price I've had with legal cover... breakdown and leathers was extra..
Just gonna make them sing and see if I like the sound of anything they got on offer. If not I'll have to look into cheapest cancellation fee for pay monthly :) cheers one and all love you mummy & daddy xx  |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Maybe a temporary cover policy for 3 months might be a better bet for you, letting the SV one wind down and then getting a 3yr NCB quote for the SRAD in the summer.

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
yes u can legally ride a bike owned by someone else on there insurance( if there and your policy states so), but im sure its covered 3rd party only, to stay with your insurer, ur gonna have to lose 9 months and go back to 2 yrs nc....to change ur gonna have to start with 2 yrs, so whats the issue, the reason is the srad is group 16, and your current insurer might not want to take the risk on( newish rider on an high group bike) even tho the sv aint that much slower;)...heck ive had to do the same myself m8, many moons ago..and yeah i can read very well thank you i aint that old....just started legally riding in 84;)

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
third party only on another persons bike I'm afraid. I'd be inclined to think its the same for all companies.
Now the most intelligent thing to do, if you are really bothered about the money and your no claims is to wait until nearer the June date....then exchange bikes. |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Pt6 : somebod's got to pay for the Bennett's Babes, & it might as well be you! A hetero might expect summat in return & that would never do, while you in your gheyness expect ( & get ) nowt.
" love you mummy & daddy xx  " Why didn't you persuade your folks to do the begatting thing sooner? You'd be a whole lot older & have YEARS of no claims! ;) |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
cos drew and lily are my surrogate parents
just waiting on mc direct to call me back so I can grill them a little :) |

SRADs are turd anyway, no wonder they don't want to insure it.

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
right I've managed to sort them out. The sales team called me back, I explained that I had been with them since passing my test nearly 3 years ago and they had always been a dream to deal with, but that I felt like I had done something wrong or to upset them and that they had gone in a mood with me, girl on the phone laughed and said that wasn't her style so I asked if we could maybe try again since I only had 3 months left to go and that I really wanted to stay with them at renewal time....
Off she went, I was on hold for like 10 mins before she came back and said "its good news!" sooo, don't lose rag with them, have a bit of banter and you just might get your way :) thank fck for that! :D bring on the srad... |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Yeah.....well done son......obviously taken a leaf from your old man!!!! :D

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
That full comp? Falcon bikes want £230 to add mine onto the SV policy TPFT. Not bad considering best TPO quote I got was £740!

Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
E-Bike do monthly insurance, tho i'd probably pop the lube in luke warm water to avoid any 'chilling' experience when you look at the cost.
Try to pick up any old hack - 50cc scooter anything, transfer the insurance to that and just stick it in the shed - heck even just a frame with a logbook is all you need. |
Re: I wonder if my insurance company will let me choose which lube they use when they next bend me over.....
Saves suggesting swap bikes but not plates.
