Team GB Olympic shooters have to train abroad!
I stumbled across this just now... bored in work so reading about the XM8 rifle which lead to the G36 which lead to CO19 which lead to police guns which lead to gun laws.

Re: Team GB Olympic shooters have to train abroad!
Surely you either ban hand guns or you don't. You can't just say "Well this lads got some tallent, he's exempt from the gun laws". Where and how would he learn of his talent anyway?
Personally, I think the ban is a great thing. I've known three people who have owned guns, and they were all class A wierdos! One older bloke had a rifle delivered to our work, unpacked it and spent an hour waving it about and boasting what a great rifle it was. This takes on a darker tone when you realise he never moved out his Mothers house, and was in his late fifties. This was also the bloke who would brake in to heated rants about those effin b****es on the production line stealing mens jobs... :smt104 |

Why would you be reading up on guns in the first place? That is what is worrying me!! :smt066:smt066:smt072 |
Re: Team GB Olympic shooters have to train abroad!
Ban guns today
Ban bikes tomorrow? Be careful how you support laws with good intentions which then don't live up to them - still plenty of gun crime about I see Knee Jerk reaction by jerks |

The only thing hand guns are designed for is to kill other people. Why would anyone need a gun if they didn't want to kill another person? Having said that i fired some guns when in Vegas. Great fun!!! Still wouldn't want people walking the streets with them in their pockets though. Even if they were coppers. |

Re: Team GB Olympic shooters have to train abroad!
I used to shoot quite a bit, my parents still do.
The hand-gun legislation may have been done with good intentions, but there were plenty of reasonable middle-grounds that were totally ignored by the government, including the findings of the official enquiery. This found that the man who was responsible for Dunblane had been reported by 2 gun clubs as being unsafe, something that was never followed up. Of course it's easier just to ban everything and fuss later. Gun crime's up, events we used to be very good at now can't be practiced and we have to bend the rules everytime we want to host a gaming event. Never has paper had so much legislation passed to protect people poking holes in it. Win. Jambo |

I just find them, the engineering and thought that goes into them fascinating. The XM8 is because of its modular design - you can quickly swap out all the parts, including the barrel, for a bullet calibre change. Quote:

A kneejerk reaction: yes, but it was in response to a number of events. |
Re: Team GB Olympic shooters have to train abroad!
A kneejerk response to police incompetence
ex FAC Holder who lost his rifles after Hungerford and pistols after Dunblane. |
Re: Team GB Olympic shooters have to train abroad!
This is the place to go. Dunno if there are many other places like it but these advertise in all the hotels. It's about 2 miles from the strip on Tropicana, just the other side of the airport, but go in any taxi and say you want to shoot guns and the'll take you here.
http://thegunstorelasvegas.com/ Here is a youtube video about it. http://thegunstorelasvegas.com/ I fired 2 clips from a Glock 9mm then 2 clips of a MP5. Was over in about 2 minutes and cost about £50 but well worth it. |

My point was that they were class A wierdos...who owned or had owned guns. I wasn't saying they were wierdos because they had guns... Another example was a sales guy who used to visit my work, I'll skip over the bizarre OCD stories in case I inadvertantly attack his way of life. But this guy would completely loose it, banging his fists on tables while ranting on about how Dunblane had ruined gun sports for everybody! This is while he's supposed to have on his super friendly best pal face, trying to get me to buy stuff from him... |
