Just hopped off the ZX9R, as my bike is poorly sick with battery failure, Mr VT is off in my car somewhere and I am about to go and ride the much less horsepower and take some pics x

gruntygiggles 27-03-10 02:27 PM

Re: My new horse...

Might be much less horsepower, but lets fact it...it's quite something when you're holding back a horse that just wants to go and you feel it shaking underneath you, only to give it a bit of rein, kick it on and fly. Teasle used to love that, I'd hold her back and hold her back and when I was ready, she'd rear straight up in the air and explode. Not felt a feeling like it since...not even in a plane or on the back of a bike.

Hope you have a good time with her chick xxx

Re: My new horse...

There's a riding centre on the hill where Dan and I are moving to, so looking forward to riding again. I could ride for free with a girl that runs a yard at the top of our hill here, but she's not got safety at the tp of her list of priorities and the main road here is horrible, so I decided against that!

You gonna get her on the lunge Jen and build her top line up? She's got lovely conformation! :-)

Von Teese 27-03-10 08:20 PM

Re: My new horse...

She's a bit all over the place on the lunge, I'm going to take her to the school tomorrow and do a bit of 'how to go on the bit' work and some flexibility exercises, she really needs it, she came out of racing and did nothing for about 5 months and it was a hard winter so she is a bag of bones at the moment.
I never thought I would love a thoroughbred so much, she just has the most wonderful nature, such a softie, opens her mouth for me when I put the bit near it.

does ti have a topbox?

gruntygiggles 27-03-10 08:27 PM

Re: My new horse...

Oh bless her....my mare was like that too and ended up with the most amazing top line and really well muscled shoulders and quarters. I used to give her a long rien for the first 5 mins and push her into it, encuraging her to lengthen her neck downwards and stretch her back thoroughly. Took her a while to get it, but when she did, i would d it everyday and because it rounds the back up into the saddle, it strengthened all the muscles and helped enormously. Flexibility exercises are the best too.

Do you have anyone that can lunge her while you ride to help get her into it a bit?

Lol.....I just had a thought, sounds like she might be very much like Teasle was. I could fully open her stable door and put her feed just out of reach. She would edge her hooves up to the line of the door and stretch her neck out, but would never dare walk out of the stable. I did it once and got called away....went back 5 mins later and she was still stood there looking at her food. Bad mummy!!!

I'm thinking about one, but I wanted to ask you for some expert advice before I just went ahead and added it ;)

You evil cow lol!!
She is the same, you can put her in her stable and just leave the door open and tack her up and she doesnt even try to run off, she also comes running up when you call her (as you saw when you visited).

will you stop with the horse stuff, Becky is going to get so jealous. saying that not at the moment she is on work experience just now and working 6 days a week, she is also schooling a wee horse for someone and has her driving test next week. so she is shattered. fingers crossed she passes her test, means I can stop the 730am trips to drop her off at work every day. Looks nice though, dont really get the appeal of horses myself

Re: My new horse...

I used to help with an 18 y/o thoroughbred called Dysa. His owner worked long hours so in exchange for stable duties and paying a bit towards upkeep I got to ride him. He was so naughty. When he saw me drive into the yard he'd run into the corner of the field and roll in as much **** and mud as he could find. I used to park down the road then sneak into the yard behind the bushes. He would also grab my handbag by the bottom, shake it out all over the floor in the hope of finding chocolate.

I ended up with a Shetland pony as well. Dysa's owner was so concerned that he would be lonely when 'Buttons' the Shetland (his best mate) was put up for sale that she bought him. I'd groom Dysa and Mr LPH would end up having to look after the shetland. He was not impressed.

I do miss riding though. Haven't been for quite a few years now.

I'm not sure givi do a rack kit for horses, but you could modify one from a wide-arsed bike :D

horsey might not appreciate it though, increased chance of wheelies (leggies?) and instability issues at higher speeds
