gave my baby some head

after a major breakdown on the m40 towards london last year, i finally managed to go to the ace cafe and get some lunch. poor mrs. was slaving away in romsey,s very own superstore. i came back through central london to london eye, hamersmith, m3 and home. well all that stop starting in traffic light city drove me bonkers so on the m3 i opened her up, hem, hem!xxx mph on the clock, before i had to slow down for traffic and gilt. was still accelerating and not reved out. i bought the bike with a scorpion [ i,m told ] stainless race system. since owning the bike i,ve raised the tank on spacers and removed the rubber insulation under tank, pipercross air filter, [ much cheaper than bmc, k & n.} iridium plugs, nikko racing g-pack module, { new on the bay at £25 ]. well those few things seem to have given the bike a new lease of life, the air filter and exhaust responsable for most of it i think. just goes to show that you dont have to spend a lot of money to get a more responsive sv 650.

I'm sure that G pack adds at least 200 bhp ;)

Scorpion don't make a full system AFAIK.

It'd be interesting if you could reverse the changes, one by one, to see which made the biggest difference. Fancy it? :smt044

i,m pretty sure its breathing, raised tank allows more air in, less restrictive filter does likewise. gpack may give a bit better acceleration, but not much. bike just seems much stronger.

The only way you'll be certain that all these mods are giving you the extra ponies, is to stick it on a dyno

And then take them all off, put it back to standard, and re-dyno so that you can calculate the actual difference ;)

Looks like micron. If you could get me a pic of collector (and care) I could tell you for sure.

If you didn't need to rejet for filter, it did nowt. Gpack does nowt anyway. Micron isn't a bad pipe but is weak in midrange, I had one fitted for a year or so.

OE downpipes are stainless too.

Why the attitude anyway? You not like being told you spent money on crap?

sorry. not really. originally i cut the wires in the geabox as a mod on sv forum, then rectifier went pop and the repair shop rejoined them. saw gpack at a lot of not worth it money, then saw it at why not its 25, so did, must be in the mind

No, Stainless headers. I thought the same as you until I listened to the guru's on the Org.

Get some polish out and give them a clean, you'll see the grain of the stainless.

Only place there might be other types of steel will be where the headers join, but as they get so hot & mucky, its difficult to tell.

If it is running a bit lean it will feel fast where it picks up around 6krpm. Below there is where micron loses out especially if can is not well packed.

I'd definitely dyno it in case it is running lean especially with that filter. But if it still rideable then that filter is cheap for a reason :P

yorkie, when i first joined forum the first post was about id ing my exhaust, i will take pickys and post it to you, maybe you,ll then know

Re: gave my baby some head

Heh someone told you it was micron then too :)

Looking at it again, 100% micron. Only one similar is akrapovich and that has another join in it where your doesn't.

bald git 10-04-10 07:36 PM

Re: gave my baby some head

the exhaust is slightly sooty around tail pipe which leads me to believe it may be a tad rich?

Has the same line as my Micron headers and with the same spring retainers for the end can. Diameter looks same too.

Have a look in my albums

I didn't cut the wires, but took them out of the connector. Released about 20hp
