MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
Mighty org...
The bike is SORN'ed because the MOt ran out before I could renew the tax. Can I ride to the MOT station and back again before applying for a new disc? Thanks! |
Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
Yes, But officially the MOT must be booked, you cannot stop on route etc.

Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
And you must be insured. But otherwise as per Tim.

Like the boys above have said, providing you have a prior booking at the test centre, are insured and take the most direct route there, there is no problem.

That said... not worth the hassle. Ride directly there. |
Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
ahem ahem ,you must ride directly to an mot station that you have prebooked
BUT you may buy a bike in say northern ireland and ride it to your local mot place in say preston , completely legally as it is YOUR local mot station just had to point that out, not that id know anyone who would do such a thing of course ;) |

My place doesn't do bookings. I presume that will be ok. basically if I get stopped by the plod I think I will be fine, but if I get some tickets off a scamera, then I will appeal with the MOT cert. So it should be ok.

Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
Ok if they don't do bookings then get them to write your reg number down at the place so if the plod check then they can honestly say "yeah he said he was bringing his bike xxxx xxx around today" ... thus it is a pre-arranged test and within the letter of the law :)

Yep I've done this with no problem. Stopped on the way back with all docs and got the tax at the post office, just because I was passing.

+1 to YC, reading other threads on here you dont want to be giving them any excuse to sieze it from you.

Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
Seriously I'm fairly sure there is case law where a guy stopped at a petrol station and bought fuel and ciggies and it was deemed legal.
|
Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
And I'm pretty sure it was the case that stopping for petrol was OK and the ciggies were incidental. A ciggie only stop would be a tug I reckon. ;) But like you say, don't give em the excuse and you are fine.

Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
yeah make sure you have tank of fuel and all the cigs you need before you set off lol. phone up to book it it - or if they dont do bookings (why dont they??) just confirm with them that its ok to bring it down before you set off and tell them what bike it is.
I have ridden my bike to MOT station today - no MOT and was on SORN, just told them type of bike. Just ride straight there - no shopping stop offs lol then ride straight back - or via the post office to get it taxed - I came straight home and taxed it online - then went for a play! Sheeemples ! |
Re: MOTs: Can you ride to and from the station if you are not taxed?
If you're being really anal I don't think you're allowed to leave it outside the post office to get the tax!
