Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
:smt013:smt076
Came out this morning and got in the car, always walk around it first before getting in (check all tire are inflated) and thought at the back of my mind "I don't remember parking with my wheels turned" but getting into the car anyway, starting it up, and going to drive off. WHOA! What the heck? It's like I've got flat tires, it's going all over the place! STOP, back up to the curb again, get out. Tires still look okay, weird. Get back in, try just driving forward. Nope, still something not right. Am I still half asleep and leaving the handbrake on? No. Steering wheel definitely doesn't feel right. Get out for another look. It is then I realize that one wheel is pointing to the left and the other is pointing straight ahead. Only slightly to the left, but that's all that matters. I also notice a rather large SCUFF on the front bumper. Some COMPLETE ****ING TW*TOCK has driven right into the front of my car, hitting in such a way as to catch the front ****ing wheel and wrench it sideways, knackering the steering. And then ****ed off like the total and utter **** that they are, no note, no nothing. Had to phone work, quickly suit up and bike in to work (while grinding my teeth). A front wheel drive car with ****ed steering is going to cost a bloody fortune to put right, my insurance policy is only four days old, they are gonna LOVE me! (it's not even the first time this has happened - I don't live far from Caerphilly Castle and during The Big Cheese three years ago the car was parked in the same spot and some bozo whacked it... nice big dent in the hood, and again they just drove off and left me with a no longer pristine car) |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
sorry to hear that dude.... ...
****ing ******s. |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Gutted :( I once heard someone say that is what bumpers are for, you should have seen the victims reaction.... Pure comedy gold.
I don't know how mechanically keen you are but it may be a simple fix. Take the wheel off and look around, it may have just popped the driveshaft out or cv joint out, or be as simple as a bent arm thing (technical I know) all of which are a few quid an hours work from a motofactors to fix. I guess if it's a relatively new car you want to know it's perfect |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Bumper hasn't protected it though, yeah. *growls*
It might be simple to fix mechanically but I still have a huge mark (cosmetic) on the front which I can't fix... a weird part of me at the back of my mind wants a write-off so I can just buy a crappy Volvo again and not care what happens to it. |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
That is so rude, bad drivers are a real pain and cause untold amounts of damage. Is it worth reporting it to the Police? It happened to our car last year, but luckily an elderly neighbour saw it happen and the Police took her description and caught the swine who did it.
Leaving the scene of an accident is illegal apparently! We got £300 to pay for the damage. |

Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Yeah during the snow we were on holiday.
Got back to find someone had plowed in the side of the missus car and caved the passenger side in, not a small smack, no note nothing just buggered off. Wrote the car off (CatC) :( |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
i'm with G, the damage may not be as bad as you think, the steering arm/cv joint etc..... in this area of the car, some of the cheaper/easier to replace parts are more liable to break in a knock, so to reduce major damage to a hub/break disc/caliper/suspension
a mate at work once had the same thing, except he parked with his wheels pointing out and someone must have knocked it whilst parked up. it was under £100 fix taking to a main dealer! i wouldnt panic just yet! |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Sorry to hear this mate.
It might just have bent the sterring rack support, not expensive and easy to do. But thats not the point, this shouldnt happen full stop, let alone ****s just ****ing off and doin nowt. *******!! |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
@G and Malks: Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, it might just be a matter of replacing a few bits and having it realigned, but there's still the really ugly scuff mark to be concerned with, and that will cost a fair few to have put right as well.
Whether all this will cost more or less than my insurance excess (£400) is another thing. |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Can I suggest that you report this to the police! Won't get you anywhere, but if the person that has hit your car suddenly has a change of heart and reports it! You can then get done for not reporting it! (As my brother in law nearly did)
Sorry to hear about your car |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
wont you need to report it anwyays for the crime number to give the insurance.

Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Update: Called police and got crime reference number. Except because I dialled 101 from Cardiff instead of Caerphilly I got the wrong police, and had to have my stuff faxed to the correct force who then called back to confirm and told me I had to produce my documents at the local police station.
Went to police station with all my stuff and to my surprise actually sat down with a cop who filled in all the proper forms for an RTC. He also suggested I consider trying to do it all myself instead of claiming, but seriously, knackered bodywork is not fixed cheaply. We drew a little sketch of the location and that was it. Insurers have been swift - unless someone is caught, this more or less goes down as my fault (you know, for daring to own a car) but in any event a tow truck is coming tomorrow to haul the poor thing away and have it all fixed. I should also be getting some ghastly econo-sized ****box as a courtesy car, to not do burnouts and handbrake turns in. Still various types of upset at the moment, I hope whatever damage the perpetrator's car suffered causes them severe inconvenience. |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Atleast the police did something, i tried to sort it.
Its just a shame that the things goes down as your fault, cause it wasnt. I hope you get its sorted quick and proper, and not to expensively. What car is it? If you dont mind me asking? Hopefully the person who hit you has some serious damage also! |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Same happed to me on New Years Eve a few years ago. Some twonk ( a taxi I guessed) stoved my drivers door in.
Didn't claim, but cost me £400 :smt068 |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
I parked my car, came back to find a broken bit that was part of my car. Some idiot hit it and it got towed.
I went to look at it at a car pound I was like well thats FUBAR:smt036 I was lucky thought casue I was able to cliam of the feck wits insurance that hit it, I actually did alright out of it! Though I haven't had a car since... Unless you have an index of the other car, it won't go anywhere no way to trace it. It's a pita, but having been there before its not great. I had repair my first car as a teenager $500 is a lot of money at 18. |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Dude, you can't blame the populus of Caerphilly, they are not born with enough brain cells to know wrong from right...
Anyway, look for the car with the huge dent in it, that'll be the one that got you. No CCTV cameras around your area "keeping you safe"? |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
@ChrisSV: Toyota Celica... it was absolutely pristine before this happened, grrrrrr! I said to the cop that I suppose insurers treat this sort of thing as your fault because otherwise you'd have loads of people crashing, having the car towed home and then claiming they came out and found it like that. Sucks but there you go.
@Tony: No cars with big dents yet, though I am looking. The nearest CCTV camera is on the side of a garage door company in the lanes behind my house. This is the same CCTV camera that despite being pointed at my garage (when it was kicked in last summer) was again worthless. "My god, they're wearing FABRIC over their faces! Our cameras are WORTHLESS!" |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Nice cars. I hope it gets back to pristine.
I know theyre not cheap to fix, as I work for Toyota myself, however im in the manufacturing bit, else idve tried to sort you out some deals on parts, however i dont get a say in those kinda things. |
Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
Thanks Chris. Pragmatic part of me realizes that some of the stone chips will be dealt with in the process.

Re: Some &£#$@ hit my parked car!!!
I have Had my car bumped 3 times in 3 years and had a house roof fall on it to top it off.
1.) Old guy pulls out off give way and hits the side of my car = He denided it was his fault 2.) Woman drives into the back of me while sat at traffic lights = She decided to tell her insurance no damage was caused and delayed the process for 6 months before my payout for repairs. 3.) Guy hits car in works car park = never even found out who it was 4.) Roof tiles fall off neighbours house and cause £500 worth of damage = I dont get a penny I recon 99% of people would drive away from a bump. Just the way peoples attitude is these days and it really ****es me off. |
