Faulty K3 Speedo

Whilst out on my SV650 K3 today my speedo suddenly started misreading jumping up and down giving much slower readings than I was actually doing. My first thoughts are faulty speedo sensor on the wheel, can anyone confirm my suspicions?

most likley be the rotor, mine did what yours is doing when it broke

Yup probly the yoke down at the wheel, one or more of the bits has broken off. Happened to me twice so far

yoke ??? its the speedo rotor

the yokes hold the forks and stem

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Most likely it is the stupidly soft, made of plastercine, magnet on the wheel. If the tabs have dropped off, it wont spin right. Fix or replace and that should get you speeding appropriately. :D

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Thanks for the replies, I will remove it and see if it can be repaired, don't fancy buying a complete new sensor at the moment, just had to pay out on new back tyre on due to a puncture :pale:

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Just dropped wheel and removed sensor and all is now clear to me, as you say its the rotor, all 4 lugs lugs have broken off, I will call the main dealers later and see if they have one in

Jayneflakes 08-05-10 05:53 AM

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

If you can find the lugs, just glue them back on. I used a spot of Araldite and it worked fine again.

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

It just so happens I have got some Araldite, I'll give that a go, nothing to loose by trying

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

i might have the whole speedo sensor up for sale soon, but probs not soon enough for you, you could have it for same price as a new rotor from dealers (£25) but the whole sensor (£140 from dealer) , if the glue doesn't work, its from a k3 as well

Longway 08-05-10 07:50 PM

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Barwel1992, I may take you up on that, no sure my glueing skills are up to the job, when do you think yours will be available?

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Just to let you know, I got sorted with new rotor today from Dyrons in Leeds £20.86, haven't fitted it yet but at that price will be handling it very carefully

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

I am on about my 4th one of these , the main problem that seemed to destroy mine was the shielding on the wheel bearing coming away and pressing into the splined Magnet , took bloody ages to try and remove a powdered sensor . DavePreston gave me my last one but it over-reads by twice the amount so suspect he sent me a Curvy one .

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

^ or its a k5 plus (k3 and 4 are same 5+ are diff)

xXBADGERXx 12-05-10 12:12 AM

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Probably a 5+ then , this one has smaller tabs on it and doesn`t appear to be as thick and heavy as the K3 one . I ordered one from the states complete on eBay and it turned up with a tab broken off it , ya just can`t win with these things .

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

lol well if you want mine when my front end arives (and all is ok and fits) you can have the whole sensor with perfect rotor for £25 inc P&P

if not will stick it on ebay any way

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

Gimme a yell when ready lad , never does any harm to have spares like this in the workshop :)

barwel1992 12-05-10 12:26 AM

Re: Faulty K3 Speedo

cool, i will throw in the old sensor as well with the old rotor stuck in it, if you want it?
