Riding In America....
Im in America for 3 months the first month is almost over and i have been on a ride of someone's Harley, or a few peoples Harley's here in the Chicago area, and the part your going to hate is that i enjoy riding them and with a 10 stone rider there not slow, it must be all the fatties riding them in the uk that makes them so slow.
Its good to be able to turn right at a red light so your not waiting for lights to change when noone is around, the lack of roundabouts means there easy to move on these roads, so now looking forward to comparing the SV to the Harley in 2 months when i get home to see if a cruiser is worth getting to go with the SV, so i can have slow cruises to go pull all the girls and a faster bike to ride with the lads :D Helmet law here is Helmets are required but a im yet to see someone riding with a helmet on, i asked the guys who have let me have a go if they have one i could borrow and they said no need to worry the police dont care about that law, and your on a harley people hear you 2 miles before they see you! so first ride without a helmet scared the crap out of me but the wind in the hair felt amazing. Now give me the abuse for liking Harley's here in America... |

What abuse? You're in the US and you like harleys. How can one possibly go any lower than that??? :p ;) |
Re: Riding In America....
riding Harley's in America is where they belong and should stay.

Re: Riding In America....
Me & the missus are half planning a trip over to the East coast of the states next spring (got a mate who's going over there for a year's exchange) and we've thought about hiring a couple of Harleys and taking a wee tour round.
Sounds good actually! |
Re: Riding In America....
There is nothing wrong with a harley but when you come home and ride your SV you will notice how sh*t there brakes our and that have your legs out all that way forward is not that practical

Re: Riding In America....
I quite like them too. Mind you, I'd be happy with a C90
I'd want a Rocket III though ;) |
Re: Riding In America....
Now check out the price of them over here, then buy something else, lol.
|
Re: Riding In America....
Think of the price per KG
R1 = £48 / Kg Rocket III = £37 / Kg Bargain ;) |
Re: Riding In America....
gettin2dizzy, you are loving the rocket aren't you
Save some pennies and buy a ZZR 1400 |
Re: Riding In America....
Whilst in Vegas last week I was walking along the Strip and 12 **** off huge Harleys stopped at the lights, open face lids, shades, engines throbbing like a mother fudger, Metallica rather loud on their system and thought yep thats looks like a lot of fun!
Apart from the Metallica bit... |

I'd rather have a ZX12 than a 1400 ;) |
Re: Riding In America....
Harleys are like marmite to alot of folks over here in the uk, and i like marmite ;) I would love to think that i could have one one day, dont know how practical it would be here though.

Re: Riding In America....
It would need to be a 2nd or 3rd bike

Re: Riding In America....
i have since one chopper here that would need to make a 5 point turn on roundabouts it was so long, yes test ride one when i get home and see home it feels, 20 and owning a Harley, insurance should be cheap because there slow ;)
I was thinking the intruder 1800 over the rocket 3 less engine, a lot less weight |
Re: Riding In America....
I have to confess, i love the look of harleys and custom bikes in general.
But.... What really pees me off is the make a lot of noise from a huge engine but really dont make that much power, their torque figures are no better than jap bikes with 500cc less. Ridicously expensive and attract some very fat old people to ride them, that said i would have one or similar if funds were not a problem. Quite fancy a custom chopper with flames, i love flames. BTW, the rocket is a monster of a bike and better value, would have one of them ;) |

Re: Riding In America....
I was talking about stopping rather than going - I thought it was well documented that the R3 was no slouch off the line, comparing favourably to the Hayabusa (up to 100mph, anyway - busa went on to a 9.6 in the list I found). The S3 I'm riding at the moment will supposedly do an 11.0 quarter, when it works.

New rocket roadster got an upgrade on the brakes I think. But as you say ... 300kg is always going to be 300kg. |
