How to get oil out my Boots??
 

Hi all,
erm first post so hello everyone!

Just got a 2001 SV650s.... also just had the darn oil filler cap come off during a ride and coat my leg and boot it oil! :mad: not happy.

Problem wiith filler cap solved, but any ideas how I get vast quantities of oil out of my boot?
The oil went all over my leg, and ran down into my boot...which has just soaked it up like a spounge.

Tried everything I can think of (leather cleaner, clothes washing liguid soad for the inside etc,) but it still feels like a chip pan fryer.

Have you tried stuffing them full of newspaper to soak the worst of it out first?

Currently have an old towel stuffed inside soaking up what it can. My sock made a good contribution as well! ;)

haha lol. I wish that would work! well it would if there had been best part of a litre in them, but theres not. just enough to get everything super oily. :p

If it were me (no experience of this btw)

1. Turn boot upside down, stuff it whatever absorbant material I could to get excess out
2. Gaffer the outside so it was more or less watertight
3. Half fill it with warm water and generous amount of fairy liquid
4. Leave it to soak a few hours then get something like a dishmatic to scrub the insole
5. Repeat 3 + 4

Or, it'll be a good excuse to get some new boots ;)

wrap it in a duvet and take it to a laundrette that you never go to and will never visit again. Wash it on a hot wash with a ton of soap and see what happens.

If it works great, if it knackers the boot up then at least you tried cos you would have to buy a new one anyway

You jest, but it has been reported in New Scientist that British Nuclear Fuels have even used Cillit Bang to clean up Nuclear contamination/spills! Read that in last Decembers Christmas special. :smt104

As for the boots, have you tried stuff like Muc Off degreaser or Hope **** shifter* in sollution? That may lift the oil out ans hold it in solution.

*Yes, it is called **** shifter and costs about £6 per litre. It is basically a strong chain cleaner that is plastic and rubber safe.

swarfega and warm water (not hot as it may damage the glues), in the bath and submerge and give a good old wash.

Repeat as necessary.

Try to restrain yourself and don't go getting in there with it.

thanks for the info!! lol some good ones there, I particularily like the daz challenge!!! lol

Will try the tougher detergents now, if it works it works!
