Nods

Was thinking on my commute home, passing the same bikes I recognise from most days going the other way, exchanging nods, there are some types that never seem to nod (not that its the law you have to). My experience, and you are welcome to disagree:

Regular bike - usually a nod
Big commuter scooter - usually a nod
125 on L plates - usually a nod
Teen on 50cc peugeot - just a scowl
Vespa type scooterist - never a nod
Chopper - 50/50
Older rider on older bike with upright barn door type fairing - seldom a nod
Experienced sports bike rider - casual leg out as they cruise past when you thought you were shifting, before dropping off the side and executing a perfect corner, making you wonder why you bother.

Re: Nods

Sounds 'bout right to be honest. Then there's cop bikes - probably about 33% nod / wave.

As a learner I don't tend to get nods from big cruisers or tourer bikes :-( Feel a bit miffed sometimes (depending on my mood) when I nod and don't get a return nod!

Re: Nods

I always give a wave unless I've really leant the bike over trying to get round a corner. I am normally going too fast to see if they wave or nod back...cos I am awesome :)

Na I really couldn't care less whether I get a nod or a wave back, got bigger things to worry about.

As much as its not a problem if they don't nod or wave back, it does **** me off a bit.
I literally speak out loud and say things along the lines of "Well f*ck you then" and get in a sulk.

I tend to nod to most, except the 50cc hairdryer being ridden by the 16yr old in trackies.
Alot of the cops round me tend to nod back too (unless they're pulling you of course

I tend to nod or wave at other bikers too. Usually get a nod or wave back. I do find the bearded Harley Owners tend to ignore it and the super safe guy in the reflective strips and yellow over jacket can be touchy. The local Bike coppers round here are quite friendly too, but then I am finding that I am getting known in my locality due to the other half being widely known.

I do like the sense of biker community when you get a nod back, but it hardly bothers me if they don't. After all, they might be concentrating on the road, rather than looking at me.

There is one lot I don't nod to unless they nod to me first, but the chances of that are remote. Chav lads on scooters. I was nearly wiped out by a group of them just after I passed my test. They had just come out of the local college and were riding three abreast across both sides of the road when they rounded a corner and almost rode into me. Funny how scary I can look when I need to! Little B**tards... Grrr

I ride past a girl on a moped during the morning commute every day and every time she nods it's like she's trying to eject her head from her shoulders! :D

Did you get to a service station later and were asked to remove your helmet? ;)

Re: Nods

if i nod and don't get a nod back, i'm totally crushed
i stop the bike, get off, take helmet off and have a really good cry
then i get back on the bike and carry on my way

but a few miles down the road it happens again!

so i stop, get off, remove helmet, have a bit more of a bubble...

being a biker for someone like me is a very emotional thing

does you think i iz too sensitive?

lol. No. But I did start to experience a strange misfire from the front cylinder (should I screw or glue the fenda extenda on?). And I think my reg/rec is on its way out.

1,000 apologies for the distinct lack of originality. ;)

I guess for long-term orgers, it must sometimes be like walking back into a pub you haven't been in for a while, and everyone is still talking about exactly the same old carp....
