My first trackday friday 27th august

Finally doing a trackday at mallory park on this coming friday with robh539.
There are spaces available in all groups if anyone else fancies joining us :)

Nervous and excited, so hopefully weather will be ok.

If there any do and donts apart from the obvious please pass them on.

Phil

You'll be fine. Good first track to go on, less corners to remember! :)

Quite a few of us from here did it in the wet last December (what were we thinking?) and still had a cracking time.

You can still learn quite a bit in the wet, well I did. It slows it all down a bit so you can concentrate on smooth riding as opposed to trying to keep up with others.

I wont be trying to keep up mate, im aiming for smooth and consistency, get used to hanging off a bit.

Knee down would be a bonus :)

Thanks for sparing me any negative vibes :p

My tip - don't even think about turning up in textile gear - you'd be surprised at how many do when it might rain. Leathers only so take an oversuit.

Other than that, don't try riding outside your comfort zone. It's very easy to be sucked in to following someone with more ability than yourself and finding yourself suddenly approaching a corner at a speed that is way past what you can cope with (been there done that). Learn the track in the first session, and then try to ride it smoothly for the next couple. After lunch you can start getting faster once you're comfortable with how smooth you are.

Thats exactly my plan, i dont try and keepup on rideouts so hopefully wont on track either, its purely a learning exercise for me.

Re: My first trackday friday 27th august

yeah do it phil shame ive not got one to ride behind you. NExt TD i will have. By the look of the map we are using the chicane 3/4 way around gerrards, so thats a new one for me.

weather will be fine. even if its wet its still reat fun. Better for learning control and good for the confidence. i will sit at the back again for the 1st few sessons. wil be in track set up so need to get used to it.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is good (at the moment it's very wet and cold in Leics)

I'll try to pop by to see you guys. What time's your briefing? I don't plan to participate as I've done Mallory 3 times already this year, but if the weather is good I might be tempted :-)

I very much doubt you'll be using the chicane at Gerrards. I've only ever seen it used for BSB and it's widely despised

Tips:
- You'll stuggle to get a garage, I often park up under the old control tower as it offers some shelter (from the blistering sun ofcourse).
- The army of old dears do a a cracking full english but be careful not to stodge up too much first thing.
- If you're both riding in the same group then you can leave your kit with the organisers who are usually camped out in the first garage.
- You can save a few quid by nipping out for petrol at lunchtime (but note that the nearby Morrisons does not do super unleaded)

Hello rusty, long time no see. 8:30 for breifing.

Awesome were morrisons? will be filling up on the way at hinckley as its the close petrol station that i know off. Never considered filling at at mallory park. I bet is expensive there too.

cheers for the kits idea, i was thinking of finding a hottax member to dump the gear with. yeah we are both in novices,

The old tower you mean the the photo dude's tower? i was hoping for a garage space, when we were they last nov. didnt seem that busy in there, but its not november :) just feels like it is.

cheers buddy may see you tomoz. (come do it you know you want to)

Alright chief

I'm tempted pros and cons are:

Cons
I've had a bad back which is recovering but I'm not the most mobile at the moment
I'm supposed to be organising my misses bday on Sunday
Not sure if my rear has another track day in it

Pros
It's a trackday innit

You'll have to get there pretty early to get a garage. I'll at least get along to take some photos. What time do you break for lunch?

Ps I'll pm my mobile number later

OK, they normally open only access to the paddock at lunchtime so I'll pop in then. Do you know what you're doing for lunch?

Morrisons is in Hinckley

The nearest petrol station is just north of the circuit on the A447. If you want I can meet you at the circuit exit at lunch and show you the way
