DVLA photocard renewal

Just got reminder from DVLA today saying photo on my licence is due for renewal. Just wondered if they ever sorted out the lost entitlements problem they were having for motorcyclists, as its my only form of transport and i dont have a full car licence im a bit worried by the horror stories ive read. Anyone on here recently renewed or got any info that would help.

Re: DVLA photocard renewal

I haven't renewed recently but i changed my address a few weeks ago and i've not lost any entitlements.
Infact when i passed my car test, the only entitlement I lost was the one stating 33BHP which was long expired anyway.
Possibly they've sorted the errors out now?

In same situation I would make photocopies and have them signed as true copies by someone important, lawyer or police officer maybe. That way you have some backup.

Aye, might pop in to police headquarters (cos its only out the back of my house) and get some backup.

I read on dvla site that you could request a data subject enquiry sent out that costs a fiver but supposedly shows all your entitlements.

Drew needs to do his by the end of this month.

He has today at work photocopied his licence and got it signed by one of the accounts as a true copy, just incase. I also did the same this time last year when I changed my name on my licence.

Re: DVLA photocard renewal

I said I "lost" my previous license therefore didnt submit it just in case my entitlements went missing. I found it again a few days later. It costs the same to renew whether you lost your previous license or if you submit it.

Just emailed my local bike section at police HQ to see if they can help with info or sign a photo copy for me.

geo do it in person walk in and ask to speak to a bike cop, they know the script and genrally go the extra yard for a fellow biker who has made the effort to go ,not just sit at home and type a email, why should they do more if you cant be arsed to go in person, iykwim
most police bikers are sound (pete being the obvious exception ;) ) and have heard of this particular nightmare many times before, it even helps if you have it already colour copied with the orginal on hand so they can obviously check its ligit, they will then see it as a 30 second job and be even more likely to help

Re: DVLA photocard renewal

I never had any problem renewing my photocard license earlier this year, nor did I have any issue when I had the driving entitlement added in July.
I took photocopies on both occasions, and got someone official to sign them. I had the driving instructor sign it the second time, and add his instructor reference number jobbie to the signature to back it up.

You can and it does, handy thing to have stored away for when you go to renew it again in ten years time ;)

Place a self addressed evelope and stamp with a note asking for your licence back.
Your old licence should be returned with a hole through the photo making it invalid.

That according to the

Belt and braces sounds good to me, compared to what happens if it goes wrong for some reason.

renewed mine last month, no problems and back in just over a week :-)

Supervox 23-10-10 03:37 PM

Re: DVLA photocard renewal

On the advice of a local copper who's an old friend of Mrs Vox I did the following :-

Took my renewal paperwork along with a new photo to the local DVLA office where they checked everything for me wrote my current entitlements on the form and stamped & signed it; they then issued me with a receipt on a piece of headed notepaper with all the details of my current licence on, again stamped & signed.

I received my new licence with all my entitlements on about a week later.

The reason for doing it this way ? One of our local bike coppers lost his bike entitlement on renewal and DVLA refused point blank to accept anyone's 'word' or 'proof' that he'd had it in the first place - he therefore had no option but to re-take his test and qualify all over again !

I did exactly the same earlier this year when mine was up for renewal and, as HHH said, it didn't cost any more than a standard renewal. I would certainly suggest any newly qualified drivers/riders take a copy of their pass certicate(s) before sending them off, thus giving extra proof should this shoddy service continue to happen.

Just found the top copy of my pass certicate from a while back so i suppose that would be proof if the worst should happen.
