Ouch.....
ecided last week to grab a big box of fireworks and visit my brother in errrr sunny Croydon for friday the 5th (starting to wish i had gone to soho for a couple of hours first).
Riding thru Stretham, noticed a car pull out from the left/stop 3 or so feet over giveway/did it stop? still not sure which one...... Next thing i remenber is thinking 'Hmmmmm front has locked this is going to hurt' in 1/10th speed, followed by a fwd fast feeling of 'Crunch, slideeeeeeeeee, stop' think the bike did a 180 on the zorst Open my eyes to find im indeed lying in the road with smashed headlights and faring looking at me and people round me. After being strapped to a lump of metal, driven to Mayday, poked prodded and xrayed, i hobbled out with a splint on right wrist and a bottle of painkillers. Bike in Charlton pound to be collected, im sore as hell prossible bust right wrist/scaphoid, egg on right knee, hip prolly gonna go purple. Other than that, my Rukka trousers did thier job (small hole in cordura), same with jacket, boots, gloves - lid is untouched, aparently i slid on my right side like superman with my head on my right arm! Well least i walked out of A&E - slowly but none the less under my own steam. Boy is my insurance company going to be upset with me! |

Shout if you need a hand getting the bike out of the pound, if it's rideable I should be able to help out not being far from Croydonia! Jambo |
Re: Ouch.....
sorry to hear his Colin, did you break the wrist or just strain it ?, FYI the Charlton pound is over the other side of Greenwich, so not that local.

Re: Ouch.....
Ta :)
Think something is busted in the wrist, too swollen to plaster so its back to fracture clinic on Friday, Landlord has a white van so will call charlton/arrange to pop up tomorrow, dunno what state bike is in but it had to go down on the zorst side. lol |
Re: Ouch.....
doesn't take much to do a wrist mate, take it easy probably a hairline fracture, although your bike has a plastic tank which overlaps the frame rails, it's fairly high up and normally the bars protect it somewhat so I hope it hasn't damaged that, the headlight surround/fairing is all one piece so as long as the frame beneath is ok isn't a big job to replace, obviously it could be the bars/lever/ footpeg stuff as well, but if the bike didn't hit anything you shouldn't have hurt any of the big stuff hopefully.
Cheers Mark. |

Some good news i suppose is that the insurance company is taking it from here, will collect biks, sort out fees, get quotes then call me. Weight off my mind like nothing on earth ill say! |

Re: Ouch.....
Seems to be the a spate of offs. Hope you're feeling better and the wrist turns out to be nothing more than a sprain or bruising.
Plastics plus an exhaust could be a pretty penny, but presumably forks were ok, so hopefully not a write-off. Out of morbid curiousity, was it wearing dual purpose tyres or pure road tyres? |
Re: Ouch.....
Dual purpose ish tyres, as it's a 19" front, you cant get pure road rubber.
1st bike not wearing road rubber in 10 years and to be honest, the 1250 had ABS for 6 months before that too. The brakes on the Tiger were about 200% better than the bandit that were 100% better than the SV, only been 2 finger braking on the Tiger since i got it. No excuses really, in hindsight, the front end went, regardless of road conditions, too much pull = hurts! |
Re: Ouch.....
Only ready about this today Colin.. Really sorry to hear you've decided to "christen" your pristine ride doing your wrist in at the same time :( Hope the damage to yourself will heal soon and the bike gets sorted without sending you into red..

Re: Ouch.....
Heard from the insurance company7 today, the repairers they sent to collect the Tiger laughed and sent for the 'Salvage Company, it was not Quote 'a rolling chassi any more'. Looks like a write off :(

Re: Ouch.....
Yep total loss :(
Exhaust, foot peg, tank scraped ,front indicator right side. Front faring, headlight unit, looks like a huge ding in a palstic tank? on the right side. I loose £175 on my purchase price so its not too bad i suppose, tho my insurance would be crippling come renewal for 2 total losses in 3 months :(. Time to have a try on public transport for a while, never felt this way aft (bugger boss was standing behind me) er an accident, from the mother down thread tho i think the possible different braking dynamics on the tall bouncy tiger may have been part of the front end locking up. IF this was the case then it would (hypotheticaly of course) mean that perhaps for the first time ever that i may not be 100% blameless in the bike going down, i dont mind being an ar$e and throwing a bike down the road if im riding like a nutter, i could live with that, but if im making mistakes when I think im doing all right, it's time to hang the remains of the jacket up and step away. |
