hit a dear at 60 !

hi all, this is my first post but it's a bit of a bad one .... My name is Martyn Stebbens, been riding bikes for 4 years. got a sv in june, had to put a new engine in it because it had been thrashed and it done the big end . got one with 4,000 miles on it for £500. all was well for the next 3 months till last wednesday when a dear dicided to step out into the road when i was dong 60 mph on the way to work, hit it and some how managed to controll it and keep it up and come to a safe stop, but the bike is in a mess:(

The are stupid creatures, but unfortunately quite solid

At least you survived, bikes can be fixed, humans not quite so easy

yup they are soo stupid ! It came out and I hit it before I could touch the brakes... still don't no how I kept it up though, but the freezer is nicely stock'd hehe :D

Re: hit a dear at 60 !

Was that a 'old dear' or a 'wild deer'? They're both prone to stupidly wandering into the road without looking.

Glad you managed to keep it shiny side up.

Keith.

Wow, did well to keep that upright, well done.

Never hit anything bigger than rabbit/pigeon/pheasant personally, though pheasants are enough! Nearly reprofiled a Yorkshire terrier once but it swerved away at the last moment thank goodness.

Don't know if it's urban myth, but I recall hearing you can pick up road kill as long as you didn't hit it yourself (the person behind can collect it). Sounds a bit Wiki, someone will no doubt correct it. Can't see plod being interested though.

old dear, wild dear, now a dead dear that is costing me £500 to put it back on the road.:( And I live in east right on the east coast, near felixstowe. Yes thats right I technically wasn't allowed to pick it up but there isn't anything stopping my dad from collecting it lol

oh dear.................................

.......... Well done for keeping on the bike though. Most instances I have heard of this happening have resulted with the rider in hospital.

I really didn't want to open this thread...if it had been an old dear being hit at 60 I really don't think I would have wanted to see pictures

AFAIK that's true usually, pheasants etc, but I thought with deer they did belong to the queen and you have a responsibility to tell the police so they can get a vet out. Could be wrong though.

You of all peeps should know it was Dave the SV that killed bambi;)

Not that a deer can tell what colour an SV is at 60mph, I think TBH, seeing as I can talk from experience, any slower and the deer would have someone off!

Doh, how silly of me, deer are big & brown, swans are big and white. :D

Both taste nice roasted ;)

Queenie only owns mute swan, not the seasonal ones that fly in

Queenie owns the Deer in Richmond Park and probably all the others on the Royal estates, which Charlie goes and shoots for supper :smt071

Except for all dem little Muntjac deer (?) invaders, they belong to no one
