Which Tyre?
Hi everyone,
I'm in a delema , what tyres should I buy for my SV650 K4. I'm on a budget and looking at touring tyres, mets, maxxis, pirelli or dunlops. Any recommendations. |
Re: What Tyre
the tyre section is probably a good place to start :smt102
Cheers Mark. |

Thanks

Re: What Tyre
Have a mooch on the Tyre Review Section.
But I would recommend Avon Storm Ultra II's, get a pair (front and rear) for about £200. Best Tyre by far in my opinion for price, miles covered and confidence on the road... :-) |
Re: What Tyre
Thanks for that, I'm going to look at Avons and maybe Dunlop roadsmarts, tyres are important, I'll just wait a few more weeks until I've saved up enough doe to buy non budget tyres.

Re: What Tyre
Pirelli Diablo Strada`s
|
Re: What Tyre
I'm now obsessed with my SportSmarts. Never had a slip in the wet despite getting a bit fruity on occasion. As soon as it gets relatively dry you can literally feel the heat in the tyres if you whip your gloves off. Excellent. But pricey!

Re: What Tyre
Pirelli strada £150 a pair ,fitted at local dealer, tempting. One rear dunlop or one rear one front diablo ?
|
Re: What Tyre
ripa, I am as tight as a ducks **** on a swimming trip to the pond.
Go get the Avons, £/mile win win win. Had them on the SV, now have them on the Aprilia, I won' be fitting anything else. |
Re: What Tyre
I've got the Avon Storms. They are good in all aspects, weather, mileage, grip e.t.c.
|
Re: What Tyre
Another vote for the Storms, excellent tyres
|
Re: What Tyre
Diablo Strada if your on a tight budget. They've been replaced by the Angel ST so lots of old stock being flogged off cheap, and they are a good tyre for the SV.
Maxxis are cheap, but don't now what they are like. |

Awww if its normal then ignore me  But last summer i could swear my dads Sportsmart was about to burst into flames after a quick ride!:smt071 Touch the tyres and feel like you could be Josh Brookes going over the mountain! :smt050 (no homo :P) |

One word of warning on the stradas, the tread does no cross the centre band of the rear tyre. This makes it hard to gauge the wear in the place it wears most, I know of three or four riders who have suddenly found themselves riding on the canvas in the middle of a ride because of this. |

It is not skills, just gaining that confidence. If the tyres aren't giving you the confidence to get them warm in the wet they won't feel like they're giving you confidence... vicious circle. You can get the storms hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch, you get supercorsas that hot and your hand will pretty much stick to them |
Re: Which Tyre?
Looking forward to trying my Angel ST's! :D
|
Re: Which Tyre?
I'm decided Avon Storm 2 Ultra, under £200 a pair fitted. Hope those who've helped me to choose them are right. Watch this space I'll let you know.

Re: Which Tyre?
I've got a brand new D220 on the rear, but the front tyre is 8 years old and has some small surface cracks...
I really want roadsmarts, so wonder if a front road smart will match with the rear D220? |
Re: Which Tyre?
Dunlop recommed you change both, but they don't have to fork out the pennies.
|
Re: Which Tyre?
So long as the tyre with the steeper profile is on the front, you should be OK. The D220's profile is quite shallow. Still not ideal, but something you can easily get used to.
