Email from my boss

You will all have seen on the news that Liverpool City Council is chopping 1,500 jobs.

'As matters stand at the moment I have to say that I do not think there will be any money available post March to carry on the current arrangement.'

Make it 1,501.

Great.

i agree, that is out of order, it is general courtesy to al least phone, but really should have been done face to face,

But again as has already been said, at the very least you have a good amount of notice.

Good luck with everything, hope you find a new job ASAP

It's not unexpected, the true surprise is that it has lasted this long. But change is opportunity, I firmly believe that, so I'm not too downcast about it.

Another bonus then - I hear that the front end will tuck in under you if a strong gust of wind catched the brake lever on those things...

I have a CG125 with no V5 you can have for £300 in the garage if you want that instead :)

Sorry to hear that Ed, I know how much you enjoyed going to Liverpool and seeing if your wheels were still attached at the end of the day :D. At least you'll have time to tend to your veggies until you find something else to while away your time, forget the tiger and look for a sprint 955i instead. Time for a consoling drink I think, you have a PM.

No chance of that, Ness. There's diddly squat around here. I don't want to go back to private practice, not after the last disaster, and no local authorities or NHS trusts are hiring... none has any money. I expected it, but it still hurts.

It has simply accelerated something else...

Anne and I have a business idea, I'm convinced it'll work. We're working on it, doing some stress testing, and so on...

More later:D

Solicitor. I deal with the Council's more complex land work. The rest of the team aren't qualified, they can deal with standard stuff but wouldn't really be able to deal with the more involved work that comes in, particularly development agreements. Guess they'll have to learn:D A team of eight is now cut to a team of three, the five gone are all great people, it's a busy team and I don't know how they'll cope. This is the reality of life in local government.

I was expecting it but still hoped they'd keep me on for a bit.

Re: Email from my boss

I know you did, Quiff.

I went to hell and back over the law firm and I have no plans to go there again. Me, I'm looking forwards.

I don't really want another job, I haven't been an employee since 2003 and I couldn't bear having some tosser who knows f*ck all about f*ck all telling me what to do and how to do it.

For a month or so I've had a business idea. It needs next to no capital (just as well as I don't have any), and I can do it from home using the laptop I'm typing this on. I've got a lot of experience, good and bad, and I'm planning on setting up a management consultancy for law firms. The Solicitors Regulation Authority is introducing a lot of change October, and most law firms have next to no idea what's about to hit them. So I'm going to help. For a fee, of course:D I've been doing a lot of reading, market research, developing a marketing database on MS Access, designing and writing a website, writing a biz plan and also standard consultancy materials - eg draft biz plan for a law firm, draft risk management processes, and so on. It's a lot of work:D

Hope to go live soon:D

I thought you might have been a medico for some reason, but that didn't sit right... There are always plenty of jobs in these parts for people in the medical profession.
I know what you mean though... I live in a shire which makes some stupifying decisions on how they allocate resources.
