Is it just me!
I am pretty new to this forum but, for me, there seems to be a handful of people who want to just make sarcastic (stupid really) comments to posts from certain people.
Personally, I am never going to be everyone's cup of tea, I am opinionated, I do struggle to suffer fools but if I don't think I just post sarky comments because I can. I think it is a shame but I guess that you can't legislate for stupidity and ignorance. So from my point of view can I ask that if you have nothing constructive or humorous to say in relation to my posts, you just ignore them. All opinions welcome in this instance! Thanks you. |
Re: Is it just me!
Standard Internet Warrior routine really mate, even this site has trolls that need to be fed once in a while :D If it really gets on your nerves the ignore function is your friend :)
|
Re: Is it just me!
don't take that's posted on here to serious mate-it is a public forum and as such if you post stuff on it be prepared for folk to reply with stuff you don't like or agree with-your pi$$ will be taken-it happens to everyone.
If you don't want replys or comments that might upset you don't post-I say if you ask someone a question or comment about something always be prepared to hear what you might not want to hear for an answer. |

;) Just have to add though, people are very different on here than when you meet them. Tone of voice and sense of humour is often lost in text. *edit* If you think its bad here, nip over to gixerjunkies or pistonheads.... |

Buy a BMW, grow a beard, get a dog and go make yourself a nice cup of tea.

Re: Is it just me!
No I agree with the op a bit, there are certain people on here who are always right, argue every little point just for the sake of it, post stupid quotes from your posts way out of context just to get a reaction.
If ever the couple in question spoke to me in front of me that way I wouldn't be so nice. On the whole though most people on here are truly good folk and face to face you'd like them, it's easier for me count people I'm not keen on than like, put it like that. |

For example:-

BBD in real life is shy, retiring and quite introverted. He's quite a nice guy from a distance too. |
Re: Is it just me!
I take on board all of your comments. Balls bigger than brains in some instances.
I am not new to the interweb, nor my first forum. I would like to consider myself seasoned in both. As an example if someone posts "I have just brought a ABCD piece of kit" the reply to some people is "That is **** and useless". Maybe a description of a bad experience with that kit would be better. I do agree that you can't read tones but sometime you don't have to. I don't mind someone taking the p1$$ as long as there is something constructive in it. |

Re: Is it just me!
There is always a degree of leg pulling on here and it is for this reason that I love this forum, also some of the opinions stated are very strong and that can lead to really interesting debates.
The thing to remember though is that it is often just opinion and not fact. Saying that, I have leaned loads just from reading the technical stuff here and have even been able to contribute a little to the knowledge base that is here. Sorry to hear that some of the posts here have caused you some consternation, luckily this is one of the nicer places to come to play on the internet. There are much more volatile places I visit, so think yourself lucky that it is not B3ta for example, they can be really nasty but only do it for the nerdgasm! :D |
Re: Is it just me!
b3ta would make most sites look saintly :)
Just stock up on the popcorn when the performance begins and it's all good :D |

Not worth losing sleep over, and equally other people are entitled to express their opinion too. And has as been said, there's some great people on here. It's Idle Banter...

Re: Is it just me!
Its not just you.
I look at it this way. In my travels through life outside of the internet I come across people who Annoy me Irritate me Who are idiots Who dont listen Who think they are right all the time So its not surprise that in cyberland I occasionally come across people who exhibt the same character traits. the difference is in real life. I'll walk away, raise an eyebrow and then I disassociate myself from those people I keep out of there way. I dont drink in the same pub as them etc etc. What happens on a forum is that doesnt happen. Instead of ignoring said person some people will have a pop back or start an argument or they'll get wound up about something and it escalates into a bigger thing. There are lots of people with strong opinions, there are lots of people who will state their opinion as fact. Theres nothing wrong with that, somebodies opinion cannot be wrong, it is their opinion. I think some disagreement or debate is healthy, I'd not want to stifle that, and end up with a happy friendly forum where everybody loves each other all of the time. Some of the best / most interesting threads come about from heated discussion / debate. But yes posting stupid comments in order to provoke an argument isnt the best of ways to go about things, but if you know that is the intention of the poster who is maknig the stupid comments, then help yourselves and dont rise to it. Theres an ignore function that you can use that will hide the posts of the people on your ignore list. If somebodies irritating you use it. Of course its entirely possible for somebody to stick within the rules of the forum and still irritate the hell out of you. Of course the moderator team willl look into any situation / scenario and take appropriate action, but I'm not going to start banning people or restricting their access purely for posting an opinion that you or somebody else doesnt agree with. Of course if you pick an internet fight with somebody be prepared to take it back as well as give it out. Its an interesting time of year, January is always a flat month, the weathers rubbish, people are skint after christmas so arent getting out on the bike much etc etc which leads to frustration which can spill out onto the forum to. I'd like to think that as a team we run a good ship, but at the end of the day theres always that little cross in the top right hand corner. Sometimes its good to take a break / get some perspective on things or a particular situation. |

Awwww, well I love you Oh mighty Org Mods. :D Some of the most entertaining characters on here (yes I think character is a good word because on here we can choose to create a character of who we want to be thought of as being) do have strong views though, there is one chap in particular who can come across as a bit of a rouh Diamond, but when you need advice, he is kind, considerate and amazingly friendly. The hidden side of the Org is the private messages filled with kind words and it is too easy to forget about those good bits when an insensitive comment can cause upset. Maybe we don't want to the forum to be always happy and flooded with love, but if you look under the surface, it is anyway! :D |
Re: Is it just me!

I can vouch for that. When Dad died, I had calls, text and pm from quite a few of the .Org making sure I was ok. |

Re: Is it just me!
OP,
Although you've got the compulsary ar5ewholes on here as with any other forum, the key difference is that this is not a faceless forum, there are ample oportunities for people on here to meet and greet so there isnt as much hiding behind a username as you find elsewhere. Most of the stuff on here is quite simply friendly banter, if you look at the locations of those who banter with each other you'll notice the jibes quite often stay within regional sections and thats just because of how often members meet, for example the soho bunch meet almost weekly. Fair enough it usually takes meeting a person to understand thier typed tone, so a new member or one who hasnt met many other members can be forgiven for thinking this is just like the other internet slanderhouse. Anyone of those familiar with him know the late Hovis is the best example of that, his replys would often create friction on here but anyone who met the guy saw instantly it wasnt a facade it was just how cheeky he was. I know I can only speak for myself but I activly make an effort not be sarcastic towards anyone I've not met because of how easily it can be misconstrude but once you've met me its obvious I mean no harm its simply that I take very little seriously so once we've met you're fair game ;) stick around and get to plenty of gatherings and soon enough you'll see we're not all wank3rs on here, although some of us are. :-D |

Re: Is it just me!
**** taking is never constructive. Sarcasm is all to easy too, but succeeds in making any given person look foolish.
If it wasn't for the **** taking and baiting this place would be a hell of a lot more boring. I'll tend not to take the **** out of people i'm unfamiliar with, but any opportunity. There is a line between **** taking and ridicule/offensive though. Use the 'smilies' to help convey tone as well... |

I google some daft images (Wideboy would back me up as he's been on the receiving end several times in good banter), but that is peach. Anyways going back to thread internet t**** and c**** are risk of the internet forum, one does spring to mind and I've told him several times where to go! This forum is tame compared for several others already mentioned, with gixxer junkies being shut down for a day due to a incident getting OTT and borderline harassment. Fizz really hit it on the head, sometimes its shut down and leave it for a while. I've had arguements with people on here, but have met them and can concede where they're coming from. |

Re: Is it just me!
if you can find a forum where everyone agrees with everything and doesnt argue id be impressed
i for 1 am a sarcastic barsteward but the many of here who have met me know i am in real life too got a problem with someone name and shame, then meet them , if still you think there a **** ignore button or simply dont come on here this site works how it is, the mods do a good job when people go to far, and tbh there is minimul offencive slagging that goes on due to it, not only that its a bikers forum ,not a knitting one ,or for 6 year olds. and i mean this without offence but seriously whom ever thinks this place is bad needs to grow a pair and mtfu its a big bad world out there and im sure we all have heard/ met/ seen things we dont like but it is what it is, just like life suck it up and move on |
