Do you remember your first time?

It felt slightly dirty, a little bit taboo and then it made me squeal with ecstasy, the chap who took my cherry chatted to me for a while as the heat of my excitement dissipated and then we did it again. :D

Yeah, my first ever ride on a bike was with a dear friend of mine on the back of his CB250 Super Dream. The bike was slow, heavy and under powered, but it was a bike and we were free to ride where ever we wanted. We clocked up hundreds of miles and even attended a rally together. That was nearly twenty years ago and I had forgotten about it until very recently. :smt040

I did something similar for two people I know this weekend, isn't sharing our love of motorcycles amazing? Anway, I blogged about it.

So what was your first time like and how many others have you taken for their first time?

I never thought anyone would ever think of me as "cool", but there you go. Yes I know, they thought the bike was cool, not me.

Don't recall my first time we as kids were all into bikes, field bikes like c50's and Puch Maxi's. We had family and friends that were into bikes.

We liked the group thing.

Cant remember exactly, was ~10 on a PW50 I think. some of my earliest memories as a toddler are of sitting on a clapped out bmw that my dad had in the back garden going 'vroom, vroom'

Either sitting on the back of a Honda that my dad had bought, or getting a lift home on the back of my mates dad's C90

Re: Do you remember your first time?

Oh yes I do. Was 18 sat on the back of my mates hornet 600. 15 journey to a course for work, slow and steady ride about 3pm.
On the way home he told me to hang on, and i did for dear life, screaming back towards B'ham City centre, flat out on to the A38M, he then decided to race a TVR thought the tunnels moving in and out the cars at crazy speed. We got pulled over and the cop was screwing as we filtered rush hour traffic for 4 miles before he caught up with us. Amazing he got a away with a right dressing down in the end.

Looking back my mate was a total tool, thought everyone should/will get out of his way. But a first ride I will never forget.

yes, very clearly and highly embarressing.

It was on the back of a friends Honda and I thought I was amazing, until he told my best friend that I was rubbish.

....clearly needed more practice.

Lol, filth.

First was on the back of my Dads CBX550 four, that was exciting enough, then he got a Daytona 955i with a completely open underseat pipe setup on it. OMG the noiiise! 120mph over the Ogden road before they put all the cameras up, absolutely brutal snarl from this bike and my lid shoved against my face as I was looking over his shoulder watching the world go backwards. And so the addiction began :)

Re: Do you remember your first time?

17 years old, had only met the guy twice at the time. He was with a friend of mine riding pillion on his bandit 600 and my mate offered his helmet, jacket and gloves for a little trip. Needless to say I accepted and hopped on. Steady 30mph round a couple of roads, until we got to a big straight 40mph section. All of a sudden he gunned it up to about 110mph and I sat on the back absolutely cacking myself. I got back to the carpark and saw my friend sitting there and my car was gone. I spent the next 15 minutes trying to find where he'd hidden it! That was my only ever time on a bike (other than a 2 minute go on stomp pit bike round a field) before I started my lessons last year. It doesn't seem so scary now...

Re: Do you remember your first time?

My earliest bike memory is running to the top of the road to meet my Dad on his way home from work and jumping on. Very very sedate stuff. Then similar to Reeder, a friend of a friend had a gsxr600 when we were about 20 and I had a go on the back of that. Scared the hell out of me!

Re: Do you remember your first time?

My first ride was as a pillion but I don't know what bike it was - only that it was like nothing else I'd ever experienced and I loved it! Then I tried riding, unsuccessfully, a BSA Bantam across a field. The I got my own Honda SS50 and chewed up Dad's lawn on it as I waited to be 16. Then I got my own CB 250 .... and the rest is history
One of these is me

Pillioned on a RD200, then started off on a CD175 around the back roads in the Lakes - T-shirt, jeans, no gloves or helmet and never dropped it. Saved dropping a bike till I bought my own, a CB125 and promptly dropped it 6 times in 5 months.

Don't remember my first pillion. I think about it maybe it'll come to me.

EDIT: No it won't come to me 'cause it wasn't a first pillion, it would have been my first ride held on between rider and tank, I wouldn't have been old enough to reach the pillion pegs or be trusted to sit on the back.

My first time on a bike was a Honda NC Express, I was about 14/15 years old, drove it up and down my Grandad's drive. It then became my first scooter when I passed my CBT! First time on the back of a bike was on my mates Honda FMX!

Re: Do you remember your first time?

Ignoring sidecars, I think my first pillion would have been with my dad on his Z400, which he keeps reminding me that I was leaning further than he was on both sides.

No lucky victims yet though, although the triumph was the first bike where I haven't been able to swap the seat for a cowl without having to buy stuff.

My first time was when I was about 8, my stepdad bought me a 50cc twist and go Yamaha off road type bike (not sure on the model) but it was amazing! I thought I was the coolest kid in school lol, I even remember going helmet shopping shortly after, good times!

We took the bike to the local woods which was about 5 mins down the road and I remember my first time I pulled the throttle right back and almost hit a tree, my stepdad running after me in a panic lol frightened the life out of me. We also took it on the beach once and the throttle stuck open lol, another brown trouser moment. Sadly that bike got stolen from our back garden by a group of teens and they trashed it, only had it a month or two. Gutted!

I'd been around motorcycles all my life, my dad rode as did his brother and some of my parents friends too, but the first proper ride rather then just up and down the street where I live was this:

I remember every inch of that short trip so vividly; from my house then turn right onto Mansfield Road, through the lights and past the Stag, across South End Green and up Donkeystand Hill, around the Whitestone Pond and along Spaniards Road through the old toll gate then onto Hampstead lane to Highgate, turn right at the Gatehouse and past The Flask, down Highgate West Hill and then right onto Gordon House Road, under the railway bridges at Gospel Oak, (ohhhh the noise!), onto Mansfield Road and then back into my street. I wished it wouldn't end so soon.

It's very difficult to put yourself in the shoes of a four year old, memories fade and the capacity for wide eyed wonder is something that age somehow breeds out of us. That brief memory from *cough-cough* years ago is so burnt upon my memory that I can close my eyes and, almost, take myself back there now to that wonderful moment when I was so speechlessly astonished by that fantastic experience. I think I grinned for a month, and I knew that this was something I wanted to do too - I so wanted a motorbike and I became utterly obsessed by them.

Mine was a Puch Maxi across the local village green. I got chased by a dog and a granny wielding a stick. It spurred me on to get my own bike, and to meet people like this bunch. This photo was taken summer 1982, my crutches are leaning against the fence behind. Believe it or not, I was the eldest of this lot and both girls are exes of mine.

Age 11 on the back of en500, hated it.
Age 16 on the back of zxr400 and cbr600f hated it.
My first bike a 125 hated it lol.

Only got a bike because the insurance is cheap. Id say i enjoy the acceleration alot with the bigger bike, it very enjoyable but i hate wearing a helmet, having to put 10 layers on, then there is the noise, even with plugs it ****es me off.

As for being a pillion, its an awful experience.

When I was 19 I got a XJ900 with my first husband (1990 ish) rode pillion and loved it, but in hindsight he was way too sensible! He then bought me an MX50 (i think) to get on the road for me to learn on. But things went wrong, he got controlling, and refused to repair it so I couldnt ride it, ******!
It was 18 years and several partners later that I met Jeff who'd just got back into biking after 20 years and bought me a GN125 for xmas and paid for my DAS and SV. Gotta love him for that

As a young kid I used to LOVE bikes, my mum tells me all I ever wanted was "A ikkle green motorbike", I even remember the cake from my fourth birthday party (which was at the Village Squash club in Sedgley Park if you know Manchester) was a little green motorbike. But then as I started getting older I thought motorbikes were for rich, good looking James Bond types and I'd never get one so that all fizzled away, how wrong was I...

I remember my first time, twas a sunny day approx 40 degrees C in April 2003, in Thailand. I was so EXCITED that I could get on a bike.

My mate had hired a Honda Shadow 600cc and took me out of town, I was cacking myself but REALLY excited, then he pulled over, pointed out the clutch, throttle, gears and brakes and I pottered around a little housing complex for about 5 mins. Then on to the road for another 20 mins then we went back cos it was too hot and we had some partying to do.

Next day we went and got a CBR400 Babyblade and he rode to a less busy street where I got back on and went up and down the road to get used to the controls and when I said I was happy he pee'd off to go for a beer and I went out around the town for a bit.

I got back to where we were staying, and parked it up. I took it out later (or the next day, I can't remember) for 'a spin around the block', and came back four hours later.

BIG mistake, I got badly sunburnt but it was worth it.

:smt040

I got back saved up and did my DAS in October that year and spent the next two years working like a sod to pay off debts, then sell my car so that I could buy my first bike in September 2005, the Thundercat

And here is a pic of me and my new bike 2 and half years after my first experience when I picked up my first bike and got to my mates house, the same mate who showed me how to ride a bike.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j1...0818_00031.jpg

And here's what the funny sods at work did to my leathers when I went out on lunch

My first time was on a puch magnum 50 on a local playing field, got a bit boring tho when after every ride, got it back to my uncles garage and the points had burned out, i was probably about 8 ish at the time but i thought it was the coolest'est thing ever. never rode anything since that untill i was 16 and got an aerox 50 rossi replica (Blue, not yellow)

Re: Do you remember your first time?

Mine was fairly boring when a mate let me have a go on his moped. God the power and acceleration was amazing.
However my wife one was far more exciting. At 54 I talked her into having a go (she had been a car driver for 37 years and thought all biker were nuts). Went for her basic training and when they went out onto the road, she lost control and accelated across the road and smashed into the wall. Both bike and biker slightly bent, but not seriously, fortunately.
She had more luck with twist and go (although she did master gear bikes a year later). Anyway she is now the very proud owner of a Honda DN01 and really loves her bike.
