Insurance advice for new rider

Is there any difference between insurance price on a naked/s?

I've got some quick quotes from go compare for around £400 but would you guys recommend going anywhere directly in particular as a new rider (age 26)?

The nakeds are supposedly an insurance group lower, presumably because of lacking expensive tupperware.

I haven't had to claim yet so not certain what they're really like, but the actual policy is underwritten by good insurers and WickedQuotes seem helpful on the phone

I used the bike insurer last July and I'm 22 with 9 points and I got a quote for £400ish fully comp.

That's not so bad considering you're a new licence holder too, my excess is £150 I think but then I am on the downhill to 40...

I hope you're being a good rider until those points have gone!?!?!?

12 now, but only 9 are in the three year period.
Roll on May and I'll be down to six that count :)

Tried wicked quotes but couldn't get anything useful out of them. MCE has been the cheapest so far at around £400. That's with £250 excess. I have 3 points (possibly 6 after the damn tunnel cameras near the MCN show the other day )

Wicked Quotes are great until you need to amend the policy ;)

Did you ever make a claim with them?

Iansv II 10-02-11 08:22 PM

Re: Insurance advice for new rider

No, but when I moved about 4 months into the policy (not to a bad area) they almost doubled the premium so the fantastic quote I originally got turned into an awful quote and then when I changed the bike from the triple to the versys (lower group) they wanted more again...

Just cancelled and took a new policy elsewhere in the end, just wasn't worth it, To be fair I got most of the extra I paid when I moved refunded as it was only a month or so later, but they constantly have to check everything with the boss when you call to make any kind of amendment which is kind of annoying and implies they're a very small broker.

Mmmmm, looks like I might switch when up for renewal then, assuming I get a good deal with someone like MCE instead (this was my first year on a bike)

Who are you with now?

H&R but not had to use them *touch wood* so can't vouch either way

As for the OP, i'd also recommend www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk for doing an initial comparison

Re: Insurance advice for new rider

i payed 85 third party fire theft, and im a new rider. got sv650 k3 2004 naked. This is first bike. insured it last year with Swinton, they pritty good. im 30 though, bike is garaged and live in village with full car license no points.

Alot of people told me to go with third party fire theft and not fully comp because its only worth going fully comp if you have a more expensive bike and if you come off it and need to claim it will put your premiums up a load so best to fix it your self, keep the premiums low, at least your covouered third party fire theft from others and to others. unless you got a very expernsive bike, then go fully.

hope that helps little, Tim
